A dangerous heat wave is bearing down on our turtle sanctuary and the smallest animals are the ones we are most worried about. Tiny hatchlings can overheat and dehydrate far more quickly than adults, but every animal in our care will be affected if we do not act. As the parched ground crunches beneath our feet, we’re working in the intense heat to cool our animals no matter the species. This is what it really takes to protect a turtle sanctuary when nature pushes everything to its limits.

The one at 13:14 looks just like Mitch McConnell 😂
Is there a way to add a sprinkler/water system to the various pens? Especially misters or tubing to fill the little ponds that keep evaporating in weather like this?
My heat index was 137° at 8:20 pm. Horrible.
Meteorologists don't "cry wolf" they use the best models they have to predict outcomes. Shame on you. 50 years ago you would have no idea what was coming with this amount of accuracy, and you would have ended up with many casualties.
These videos are so cool!!! As a kid growing up in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., I frequently saw box turtles—as well as toads, and even quail (Bob Whites)—come into my yard from the woodlot next to the house. I never tried to keep them as pets, but I tried to protect them. Living in Pennsylvania now, not near woodland, I haven't seen a tortoise in years. I last saw a toad maybe 6 years ago. There are no Bob Whites, there are no spring peepers like when I was in Maryland (near a creek), and even fireflies are diminishing. I can't tell you how sad this all makes me.
유카탄 박스 터틀 진짜 예쁘네요
Hotter than Florida….bahahahahaha. Have you been to Florida in the middle of August? I was born and have lived here most of my life and I can guarantee you it’s hotter and more humid here than NJ. I loved finding gopher turtles when I was a kid. I had a few that I would see often. I could recognize them from scars on their shells. They were very friendly. I just saw one in the wild at FtDesoto Park a few weeks ago just walking down the path like a regular beachgoer. Not phased by the people or dogs.
Im crazy about Bigfoot and how she resisted Blondie's trying to mate! So funny. She probably thought he was just a pipsqueak. Thank you. And, so much fun seeing Casey interacting with the torts. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The Sicilian turtles are gorgeous. Chief Brody is a hard head! 🐢🐢🐢💚
Love your turtles, but cool down the ocean. If it goes, we go.
i have come across your page from an old video of yours on facebook. it’s pretty cool as an australian to learn all about your tortoises and turtles, have you ever worked with any australian turtles?
I would like to see more of ALL the animals!
That water bill is gonna be outrages! 😢
7:08 😂 you can tell their enjoyment
So do turtles drink out of water bowls normally?
Ah yes an average fall day here in Texas 😂
We use shade cloth to reduce temps over our garden.
The babies are so cute! They do look really healthy, and their shell patterns are pure works of art! Hope all of the turtles stay cool as well as you, your family, and your other pets!
Add frozen ice blocks to the turtles ponds to keep itcooler longer and slow down the evaporation.
Que projeto mais lindo, Deus abençoe grandemente ❤❤❤
Awww sorry Chief didn't like his new home 😞 yay for the sicialian pond turtles though!
For the babies can you place newspaper over the wire mesh to give them extra shade and stop the water evaporating so fast?
"Now, in here-"
DONK BONK
PFFFF- Hahahaha!!! 🤣
Love you and your turtles and torties. 👏🏽 Thank you for being a beacon of light in an ever changing world.
Love seeing those babies!! Bless you guys!! Hoping our Baby T is enjoying the heat!! ❤ Steve and Alicia
What about
SOAKER HOSES
that can be linked
as you need 💦🐢
Great that you’re on top of this heatwave.
i was in NYC for that heatwave, and it was wild! glad these guys have you taking care of them
THOSE TORTOIUSES STAND TALL ON THEIR TOE NAILS WHEN THEY ARE BEING SPRAYED WITH WATER BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT THEIR LEGS ARE THEIR RADIATORS! THEY WANT TO GET THEIR WHOLE LEGS OUT OF THEIR SHELLS SO THEY GET THEM ALL WET! EVEN THEIR NECKS ARE ALL STRETCHED OUT TOO TO GET EVERYTHING WET AND COOLED OFF!
Maybe add a mist system for them?
Brother is your left arm bigger than your right arm?
I am obsessed with Bitsy throwing the mud I keep replaying it
This heat wave really has been insane. Thank goodness today is cooler! But I can’t wait until autumn. I used to be such a summer baby, but now..give me ALL the cool weather 😂 if I could convince my husband to move to Alaska, I would. My favorite part of this was watching the radiated tortoises getting watered! 😂 So funny and cute the way they stand..you can tell they love it! I also enjoyed watching the iguana eating blueberries!
Hot in north Georgia too. Probably wouldn't be too hard to set up irrigation with misters and emitters for those enclosures. My plants, native and others, are behaving like it's August 😞
I always have water out for the critters, I change it daily
I love how the radiated tortoises rise for a nice splash of water. Everyone seemed happy to be showered.😄😄😄
Gopher tortoises are def my fave! I’m from their native range and I grew up riding trails through the woods just hoping to see one. I still remember the exact place of a burrow that one tortoise lived for over a decade. Wonderful little creatures!
🙏
Hi, I was told to come comment here from Facebook. Yesterday at around 8:45 I set my turtle in my front yard he about the size of a hand, painters turtle. He usually lives in a tank inside our house which I was cleaning inside my house while I forgot he was outside. He tends to go in my neighbors bushes and last time he went “missing” I found him in their garden digging and burrowing. Yesterday it ended up being too late to find him I looked in the neighbors garden with no luck. I’m not sure how far a painters turtle would make it. Being outside isn’t new to him but he likes to travel and I wasn’t there to see. 😢
Does a sprinkler system on a timer make sense during these potentially fatal heat waves?
Of course, these so-called experts have cried wolf many times because they want to push their green agenda. I used to believe these fearmongering tactics as a child in the 70s and saw how they changed the terms to make people like me more fearful, but now I realize that even the past this is just a cycle.
We will witness heat waves, longer winters, more rains and flooding, famine, and so on for the rest of our lives. Hence, these fearmongers finally found the term they can use forever–climate change.
Do we need to do conservation efforts like recycling, creating sanctuaries for wildlife, responsible disposal of waste? Of course, when an agenda is being pushed for social engineering, we better be wary because the elite puppet masters are not even doing what they require the masses to do for the most part.
It’s been brutal in middle Tn and worried about my hens and chicks. Hope all the critters there are making it ok. Your babies look amazing. Chief Brodie wanted his old digs back, lol.
You need to set up a misting system. Just run garden hose with the misters on them across and around the enclosures. Need more holes, poke them and add the attachment or just let it spray.
Growing up we did this on our property to ensure our animals could stay cool. Then all you have to do is turn on the tap when you need to.
Great job
How could Chief Brody not love that new oasis??? At least the Sicilian pond turtles are using it.
Those tortoise enclosures are nice!
What happened to all those Eastern box turtles taken from that construction site, were they all relocated? Any news about returning box turtles found to be genetically local to the woods. There is a Polyphemus moth named after the Cyclops. It’s a HUGE, night-flying moth with big “eye spots.” BTW, does anyone know where Kenan is, he stopped posting almost 2 weeks ago without notice…? 🤔
Every body drink! Sorry the Chief didn't want to move. Beautiful new area! ❤
i love your black and red emo star tattoos on the back of your arm!! lol i was emo too once! Yellowcard and Simple Plan were my jam!!
2:42 these look UNREAL 😮
do you have a video how you made turtle enclosures like the from the beginning
