Hey, I’m J C! Welcome to Missed Again, the pool channel for advanced beginners stuck in the “awkward middle” of the game.
This isn’t about perfect play. It’s about my honest struggles, frustrating misses, and the small breakthroughs that make a big difference. I explore why I miss, what I’m learning, and how I’m working through it, so you can, too.
I’ve learned that high side spin is one of the most powerful and versatile shots in pool, but many players, especially beginners and advanced beginners, simply aren’t taking full advantage of it. This video shares my personal breakthrough on the basics of using those specific One & Eleven O’clock hits on the cueball. I realised that understanding the fundamental applications of high side spin is essential for improving your overall game.
In this introductory video, I break down 6 Real-Game Scenarios where I found high side spin became absolutely mandatory. Think of this as your easy starter checklist to finally integrate this spin into your game and see immediate results in:
Easy Cueball Control: Learning to widen or narrow your angle for better position off the cushion.
Fixing Simple Errors: Utilising high side spin to help cheat the pocket or manage a slightly tight cut.
Basic Spin Transfer: Understanding how to influence the object ball using the gearing effect.
I discuss the basics of how left English pushes the object ball right, and right English pushes it left. If you’ve been avoiding side spin or aren’t sure when to use it, these 6 scenarios are the valuable introduction I discovered to start making it work for you.
I’m a proud JFlowers Cues & Cases sponsored ambassador, and the current playing equipment I use includes:

Thanks for this one, JC !!! ✅
Great explanation, btw what cue do u use bro?
Some of the explanations here don't make any sense at all in terms of physics. Perhaps watch Dr Dave.
You videos are getting better…good topics, good filming…keep up the good work!
As a beginner pool player myself, I enjoy videos from our point of view too!
JC, I am really enjoying your clear approach and simple visuals that are easy to follow. I also appreciate your humilty as a fellow learner. Great, clear, lesson!
Twisting banks with English is pretty advanced! I find it more useful/common with reverse banks. They come up in 1 pocket all the time.
Those tables look in great shape. And looks like the pockets are 4.25"?
Another great video. Thank you J C.
When you say it’s pointed at 11 o’clock, it shows 1 o’clock and vice of versed.
