Unbelievable, they are still selling the nano S after the date they announced that there will be no updates. I just received mine, I'll be sending it straight back and going with another company – horrible business practice!
If you ever get a chance to talk with ledger, you should ask him why the memory on their newest devices suck and why the ledger nano X has the highest memory of all the devices? Doesn’t really make sense for the newest device to have such a low memory 🧐
You really need to check your 'nano s' if you haven't in a while and upgrade. I just checked mine and the oled screen is basically unreadable – apparently a feature of oled technology. Glad I caught it now.

I talked about this extensively with ChatGPT (paid version using web search). Bottom line: No worries until December 2025, but after that, you should buy a new device to stay safe. The Nano S will still get App updates until the end of 2025 but no more firmware updates. As of now, though, the latest firmware has no known vulnerabilities. They CANNOT update the firmware any more because the latest version already uses all of the available memory.

ISSUE: I just bought a new Flex, set it up and then transferred my crypto from my old Ledger Nano to my Flex. Ran a new transaction report to import into Koinly (for taxes and tracking) – the report identified the "transfers" as taxable events !!!!!. If this happens – contact Koinly support their Support Bot was much more helpful than Ledger.
JUST GIVE LEDGER NANO S USERS A SUBSTANTIAL TRADE-UP DISCOUNT OF 50% OR MORE…. THE CURRENT 20% DISCOUNT IS WAY TOO SMALL…

Thanks for the info Wendy, with all the negative news surrounding Ledger in the past few years I have decided to purchase a Blockstream Jade to store some of my BTC. I wonder if you have any thoughts on the Jade?
I got started on a Nano S, like most of us, but I've been using a Keystone for the bulk of my needs for some time- I love it and haven't looked back since. However I agree with Wendy, depending on how they sunset this, it could be fine or it could create a really nasty UI/UX papercut for more normie users. If chains still want to support the Nano S, I hope Ledger will facilitate those updates while leaning on their respective communities to do the development work. If they don't want to do OS Firmware updates I can understand that.
Obviously the company shouldn't be forced to support it forever. Given it's early limited storage size, and the opposing force of progressive technical growth of the industry (every app getting bigger for more features), has made the original S really cumbersome to use if you hold more than one crypto. I had to refresh my memory, but according to a search the S has been on the market for approaching 9 years. Is that a fair product cycle length, given this type of product? Now is the time to decide, because this will set precedent for Ledger and its peers going forward. If they only stopped selling the Nano S in 2022, then I would say that is too short and borderline scummy behavior.
I can tell you this much, I'm going to continue to not recommend Ledger products because they are too over priced, given all the new competitors we've seen spawn since, and frankly, they cannot stop stepping on every damn rake they come across. Should have bargained lower for Ives commission pay so that you could support your paying customers longer.

I have some questions. If you buy and use another BIP39 compatible wallet and use your seed phrase to activate it,same seed phrase as your original Nano S, what happens to the original Nano s? If it tests positively that all the funds are proven to be transferred onto the new device, technically, wouldn’t the funds also still show on the Nano S device at the same time? I’m not suggesting that you doubled your crypto, I’m only asking if it still shows on the old device (Nano S). In other words, by creating a new hardware wallet using the original seed phrase, wouldn’t it now make it 2 devices that can be used possible as double storage (like a backup)? I’m planning on using another brand because if this is what I’m going to expect years down the line, I can’t keep buying another wallet, or another one of their products in order to keep my Crypto. The idea originally for me was to buy the NanoS, put my cryptos in it, store it securely and leave it alone for many many years. If the double storage, mentioned above is true…. Im going to buy another device, transfer my funds using my seed phrase, then destroying my original NanoS. I think it’s total crap for them to do this and make the customers think early on that they could simply buy their NanoS , store and forget it forever. Instead this is a ploy for them to make more money. Any thoughts on this, or clarity with my first question is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi I have nano s and updated my ledger live desktop. After I updated the My Ledger option disappeared. Is this because nano s is not supported anymore?
This is not a big deal. The Nano S is OLD and crypto is constantly evolving. The biggest problem with the Nano S is the storage limit. In the near future there will be apps that are too big for the Nano S. The device is just one tool among many. Your 24 words is the real wallet and can be used with almost any other hardware wallet.

How much work does it really take? The level of security updates used on other devices I'm sure it can carry over into the nano S. I think the cost is insignificant but rather they want less on their plate.
