Harry S. Truman, the 33rd U.S. President, famously stepped into office after FDR’s sudden death in 1945, immediately facing the monumental decision to use atomic bombs on Japan, effectively ending World War II. He is also known for initiating the Cold War-era policies like the Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan to contain communism, and for desegregating the U.S. armed forces.

Bomb was dreadful. Could it have been avoided?
Asesino Genocida De Niños Mujeres y Ancianos Con El Mismos Derecho A La Vida Que Tienen Los Que Comentan Aquí Mismo El Pueblo No Tiene Por Que Pagar Las Consecuencias De Sus Diferencias Políticas De Dinero Ni De Poder Es Asunto Suyo Malditos Ojalá Que Aún Estén Ardiendo En Las Brasas Del Infierno!
The mysterious death of the previous president was, I think too convenient, could it be he refused? 😂❤❤❤❤😂❤❤❤❤😂❤😂❤❤
Unfortunately, more Japanese and Americans would have died than died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki if the atomic weapons had not been used. Truman made the best choice out of a number of abysmal choices.
This belief that Americans are financially responsible for the world is just insane
Truman gave us a secret police and a tax that nullifies the fourth amendment and the right to privacy. I wouldn’t call his civil rights records mixed, I would call it garbage.
To formulate an opinion about the second bomb – the first one was ENTIRELY justified – we need to know what was known to the President in those three days. Was the intelligence about the Japanese high command willingness to continue fighting correct? Were there signs that this willingness weakens? How high were the chances of immediate surrender? With all my concern about Japanese civilians perished in Nagasaki, I cannot pass any judgement on the President's decision to drop the second bomb.
he is great!

Truman is a great American President.
Decisive. Never one to allow himself to be paralysed by cowardly caution.

He was a great man!
Harry S. Truman was. the president, put into a position to uphold his Oath of Office… Having to directly view a domestic problem of State Power while understanding his enemies aldasty and claims… Knowing that he could do directly so much through his Administration found help from former First Lady Mrs E. Roosevelt Social Program which gave understanding to citizen concerns of agriculture laboring across the agricultural 😮states north south Midwest and both east and west coastal states agriculture laboring…
He viewed claims against him as reasoning to address States segregation
laws not affiliated with Federal Constitution Articles nor the 14th Amendment… He did thing such as create
Agency to independently investigate discrimination charges of Discrimination with in government hiring, US Military open door which gave meaning to (Brown v Board of Education)…. I can not everything next president will be able to continue doing more!
Said I can not do everything the n
Government federal and state… H
Japan was unyielding, there was no other way to end the war without dropping the tombs. They were reluctant even after the first bomb in Hiroshima. Good documentary, fairly balanced.
Truman was a good man and a GREAT President!
One of my favorite presidents! Thanks for showing this!
Bravo ! Well done! Other than how you wrapped up part about dropping atomic bombs I really liked it . History major here. My personally favorite president. And you’re spot on. Unusual preparation for the job. Read David McCullough bio of Truman. Easy to read. Also you may wanna try our one man show “ give them hell Harry”. Two at least on YouTube. Both actors do well. This short bio actually does BEST job of dealing with pre president Truman RE his economic life. Very important. Was kinda Joe Biden like. Stumble mumble bumble. Truman , however, really, I believe had an awesome core and consistently showed great judgement. Truman was fundamentally just a better man …. Not just than Biden….. most men who became president. Just a better man. That is not in vogue now nor moat times of US history but it does show up .
Harry S. Truman's "flat eyeballs" as you call them, likely refers to hyperopia (farsightedness), where the eyeball is too short, causing light to focus behind the retina. This condition often requires thick corrective lenses, convex in shape, making the eyes appear bigger than normal behind the lenses, which aligns with Truman's well-known glasses. There's no definitive medical record explicitly stating "flat eyeballs," but the term colloquially describes hyperopia's effect on eye shape. That doesn't explain why he didn't respond to fireworks by sight, only by sound, as you report. His distance vision should have been quite good, with close-up vision blurred, unless his condition was also complicated by severe astigmatism or some other malady.
Revisionist history of the worst kind. Right from the beginning of the Manhattan project, history recounts a common goal was to develope an atomic weapon to use on whichever enemy was most convenient. Harry Truman merely approved the plan. He did not dream up any big decision…it was the culmination of a project begun long before he was even aware of it. The real telling remark was Oppenheimer when he said he could, “…think of no other use than as a weapon…”. Harry Truman was also well aware that not to use the bomb would probably cause his impeachment and cost millions of lives in the planned invasion of Japan scheduled for November 12. Both had to be avoided and accordingly, without delay, Truman, although agonized over the effects of the bomb, promptly approved its use very shortly after receiving word of the successful Trinity test. To impart a lot of wailing and gnashing f teeth regarding the decision is just not accurate at all.
Do you really think 3 days wasn't long enough for Japan to quit????????
From a failed farmer to the president during the deadliest war in human history — Truman's life reads like a novel
excellent!
It was horrific let's face it no one is trying to justify that but it had to be done and another thing people don't realize or remember is that the Nazis had the plans for the atomic bomb and I dare say there would have been many more people killed had they succeeded with it!!!
I was born in February 1952, and I liked and respected President Truman. I believe he was a tough, smart, down-to-earth, honorable man. I would have never voted for him, but to this day, I still respect him, a great president from what I read and learned. President Truman had a lot to deal with, and I don't think he got the respect he deserved.
