I love this folklore and a lot all the different versions. I’m the only version I’m familiar with as of right now it song of the scene the Scottish movie about Ben NSAOIRSE I named we named our baby girl that she’s two weeks old. We love Scottish Scotland the country we’ve been there several times my husband has Scottish ancestry and we just fell in love with that name so when I was looking for the best pronunciation for it from where it’s located from the song of the sea came up and that one’s about siblings, Ben and Sasha And it was so beautiful that one was a great ending as well, but I light in this folk Lord, that you know her son had compassion and he wanted his mom happy and I love that mom took care of her family, regardless of where she was she could never physically see them as a human again, but she still loved her baby so much And still took care of them and watched over them. That’s sweet. I know they don’t always end the best and I’m sure I’m about to run into a couple but I love selfies I love seals and manatees. Those are my spirit animals and if I could ever be reincarnated, then you would have to be as a manatee first in a seal Second
Father: Hey, where is your mother? Youngest son: Oh, she went for a swim. Father: Did she found the Selkie skin that I hid from her? Young son: Oh course not. Father: Oh good (relieved) 😊. Young son: I gave it to her. Father: YOU WWWHHAAAAAAT! 😮😮😮
The first time I learned about Selkies was a character in a kid's book called The Secret Country by Jane Johnson. I've been trying to remember the name of this book for years. Finally, I searched up "selkies in modern media" and I was able to find it 😅 took me forever, just to assuage my childhood memories.
I just woke up from a dream. In this dream were Irish mermaids. They each glowed in separate vibrant colors. I was being told to come outside in the middle of the night. I was pacing inside a lake house. Quickly cracking the window open I’d peak and see. A voice and a wave crashed equally as fierce. Calling my name and beckoning me. I begin to believe. The cool polished panel boards under my feet transform into sand. The waves are higher this time but the shore lines are tame. A few left my presence and a some are still here observing the tumbling surf. A mermaid with incomprehensible florescence shine as she reaches out her hand. I’m terrified of what power may pull me in. I commit. Stepping to the edge of land our hands meet with a spark. Immediately the waves dye down. As if someone turned off a hot tub. Like a rocket through the coastal line. The water equally as dark as the night. Me being creeped out of any sea creatures I resorted to clinging to this mermaid. Then suddenly I looked up out of the water and there were bars and casinos floating about along a shore line I’d never seen. She spoke in a frightening tone but in my head I knew it was kind words. That’s when I woke up-
I was today years old when I heard selkie. I'm 32 … I've ALWAYS FELT THE SEAL IN ME IN THE WATER!!! >honestly confused as a child why I didn't change nor did anyone else change…. My real home is the sea and shore….
We read a story in school similar to this one, but the woman turned into a kingfisher. Her and the man only have one daughter and after she finds her skin herself and escapes she comes back for her daughter. The man ends up sad and alone.
When I was 7 I lived right off the coast, And every week I'd go to the harbor with my family, I'd run to this lookout point/tower thing and try to sport seals in the water. They'd come into on the misty days and I used to think they were selkies. I'd try to sing to them lol
So I'm understand that selkie want to go home, embracing for his son and never forget her family. That was first time in experience for love, kind and family.
I taught this story in high school after doing a research paper on it. And the Mythology behind the lady Arachnid. She's from Greek Mythology I believe
– man find a couple of woman bathing in public – one of the woman lost/forget her special item – the woman need that certain item to go back home – She end up marrying the thief/culprit – They have a family, but she still wanted to go home – The woman find her item and Imidietly flee – she sometimes help her foster family
'*𝘓𝘦𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘢 7 𝘉𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘪??!!!*' 🧐 Jaka Tarub is that you?! How did you go from Indonesia to Scotland?!
Silkies are NOT always female. There is a well known Scottish song, 'The grey silkie of Sul Skerry'. In it, the selkie has a son with a human woman, and comes to her on land to fetch him when he was 10, and paid her for the service. They are also known in Wales, where they are called Selech, and New England, where they are just known as seals.
I remember a similar story in Korea but instead of a selkie’s fur, it was an angel’s robes (they can’t go to heaven without them because their robes allowed them to fly).

How interesting, there's a song I love, Selkie, by Blackbriar, I didn't know it was a folk-tale
Is this the story that Song of the Sea is inspired from?
The Secret of Roan Inish is one of my favourite movies of all time… there is just not enough media surrounding this beautiful folklore!

Can you do the male version
"They became a couple" he kidnapped her.
I guess consent was less important in folklore.
