EXCLUSIVE REPORT: The Armenian Report team took a trip to the Armenia-Turkey border villages to meet the residents who live in the Bagaran community of Armavir Province in Armenia. Bagaran borders with Turkey.
Here, the dividing line of the Armenian-Turkish border is the Akhuryan River, which joins Araks. The village is 50 meters away from the Turkish border, there are parts of the village that are only separated from Turkey by barbed wire.
Russian border guards have a base here.
The residents of the community accompanied our reporter and presented the village. They shared with us their concerns regarding the process of normalization of relations with Turkey. The villagers emphasized that they do not believe that Turkey is ready to open a border with Armenia without preconditions.
“Look, only Akhuryan river separates us. From here you can even see how the Turkish man mowing the grass. At one time, that area was also ours, they came to settle and live there. Their mosque is visible from here, the molla’s voice is constantly heard, and we also put crosses in the village to counter them,” said Hrach Galoyan, a resident of Bagaran.
The villagers mentioned that they fear that the price of improving relations with Turkey is the rejection of Artsakh and the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. The villagers emphasized that there is danger that Turkey can also soak up Armenia’s economy.
In addition, the villagers remind the viewers of how Azerbaijan murdered our young men and civilians with the help of Turkey during the 2020 Artsakh war.
