Parents of killed servicemen protest — demanding a criminal prosecution against PM Nikol Pashinyan

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Parents and relatives of servicemen killed during the 2020 Artsakh war staged a protest against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today.

Parents marched with photos of their young men in hand from Charles Aznavour Square to the government building.

They are demanding to initiate a criminal prosecution against PM Pashinyan for his statement that it was possible to prevent the war and still have the same results without having thousands of victims.

The parents submitted a document and signatures they have collected.

Prosecutor General did come out and tell the parents that he will speak with 10 parents on behalf of all the parents — the parents did not agree to the terms telling him he must either speak to all parents or none at all.

The Armenian Report spoke with one of the parents attending the protest who told us:

“I am the father of a killed conscript. We are here to make our voices heard against PM Pashinyan in front of the government building. He sad he could have stopped the war with the same results without victims because they would have said they would call me a traitor. We are here to say that for his pride and ego he did something that is unacceptable for us. Any Armenian who could have saved 10 Armenian lives and didn’t do it is a traitor to the nation. As the head of the nation, he needs to answer to the parents. Why didn’t he stop the war and prevent thousands of young deaths and lands lost,” says the somber father of a deceased war hero.

He says he finds it absurd that the PM makes statements from the NA podium then tells his people to come explain to the people that that’s not what he meant by his statements. “Either he’s a madman or he’s treating us like we’re mad. We are not stupid. We’re the normal parents of war heroes and we expect an answer from him — why didn’t he save our children’s lives? He saved his son’s life but not ours. For that he needs to answer us,” said the father.

The mourning father concluded that they will not accept normalizing relations with Turkey.
