In Goris today, August 12, the opening of the reconstructed Artashesyan street and the playground took place. The Mayor of Goris, Arush Arushanyan, told reporters that the reconstructed district has never been asphalted and improved before. Apart from this district, five more districts are being reconstructed.
The Armenian Report’s correspondent Ani Gevorgyan attended the opening today.
“55% of the money spent was invested by the community, 45% by the state. As of now, capital construction worth about 2 billion drams is underway in the community. About 135 million drams were required for this particular district, but the adjacent parts of the district must also be built. About that amount of money should be provided to complete the works in the district. Our principle is that all the peripheral districts of the city should be improved,” said Arushanyan.
According to the mayor, renovations are underway to get the appearance of the old historical center of the city. Both of the renovated districts will be named after Mkhitar Sparapet and Davit Bek. According to Arushanyan, the guest houses and hotels of Goris can host 1150 tourists. According to him, the flow of tourism in the city is gradually recovering after the war.
“There is a misunderstanding among our society that when visiting Syunik, they must pass through the enemy’s positions. I invite everyone to Goris, it is safe here. People can come, all the conditions are created, we are a hospitable people. Most of all, we should want to go to places that are near the border, close to the enemy, so that the enemy can see that we are ready, standing on our land. There is no need to be afraid of the enemy,” Arushanyan emphasized.
The mayor also added that the uninhabited houses of Goris can also become guest houses.
