SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. — As lawsuits and public scrutiny intensify around the impact of social media and online gaming platforms on children, Keosian Law LLP is bringing the conversation directly to Los Angeles families, educators and the community.
On Tuesday, September 15 at 7 p.m., Keosian Law LLP will host “Beyond the Screen: Social Media, Gaming & Our Kids,” a community town hall and panel discussion at Republic Venue in Sherman Oaks. The event will bring together law enforcement personnel, child psychologists and legal experts to address online predators, cyberbullying, gaming and social media addiction, teen mental health and practical steps families can take to help protect children online.
Harout Keosian, founding partner of Keosian Law LLP, will moderate the discussion. The panel comes as families nationwide pursue litigation involving digital platforms and alleged harms to young users, including the federal Roblox child-safety litigation consolidated as MDL No. 3166 and lawsuits alleging that major social media platforms were designed in ways that can contribute to compulsive use and mental-health harms among young people.
The Roblox litigation includes allegations that adults used the platform’s chat, friend-request and in-game gifting features to contact and build trust with minors, with some interactions later moving to other apps. Separate social-media litigation has raised allegations involving youth mental health, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, body-image issues, self-harm and suicidal thoughts.
Panelists will provide professional perspectives on warning signs parents and educators should know, how online contact can move across platforms, and what families can do when they have concerns about a child’s safety or mental health.
The discussion is intended to give parents and educators practical information while examining the broader legal and public-safety questions surrounding the digital environments children use every day.
