The House has voted overwhelmingly to recognize the century-old mass killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turks as genocide. The move is a clear rebuke to NATO ally Turkey in the wake of its invasion of northern Syria.
Historians estimate that up to 1.5 million Armenians were killed around World War I, and many scholars see it as the 20th century’s first genocide. Turkey disputes the description, saying the toll has been inflated and considering those killed victims of a civil war.
The nonbinding resolution passed 405-11 Tuesday. American lawmakers have been critical of Ankara’s recent incursion against the Kurds along the Turkish-Syrian border.

The armenian genocide was masterminddd by tallat pasha this must go in the hostory books
I was thinking about this was told the US didn't recognize this tragedy. Well I was wrong. They did it but it should have been earlier. Politics avoided it don't be surprised. Politics are dirty. Thing is I thought in a way the US did always recognize this situation because it embraced Armenians here. They just didn't want to call it a genocide even tho it was. The US held Turkey as an important ally because of its geographic position but it's clear now Turkey won't listen to the USA. Politics are dirty tho and among our allies there are questionable countries. A genocide aren't casualties of war, it's openly trying to exterminate a race in the most brutal way. Turkey let people die in a March through the desert. That is a subhuman act worse than war. Religion also played a role here. Out of all different atrocities the human can commit this one stands out as a clear genocide. There are other cases of genocides like this country killing of natives but because of the brutality the Armenian genocide is super obvious and the US not recognizing it earlier is disturbing. Nearly every country you can say is guilty of a genocide but this genocide by the Ottomans is more than clear.
Turkey should confess to committing genocide on many peoples, starting first with Armenians, Aramaeans, Kurds etc.
My maternal ancestors are of Greek descent and they where pressured to convert to Islam during the Ottoman Empire. This resulted from paying the “jizya” (protection money) that every non-Muslim had to pay in Muslim majority parts of the world back then. Those who were not able to pay (mostly due to poverty) where either humiliated or even killed. Yet, they also had to assimilate to the Ottoman culture and traditions in order to blend perfectly in society. Finally, my ancestors settled in Tunisia roughly 150 years ago. This is my story in a nutshell and I hope that one day, Turks realise the ugly truth of their history. Turks have to learn to put their (false) national pride aside, which makes unbiased dialogues even more complicated.

Ottoman Empire did the right thing that must be done at that time for the sake of its interests..Yes thousands of people left homeless,seperated from their families, lost their lives due to diseases during this isolation procedure but there is no proof of calling this as genocide..There was no planned and systematic mass murders and executions.People should ask why a nation would take such an extreme step against certain minority group..It's the result of Armenian gangs who chose to rebel against the country they were living and chose to kill muslim citizens at the east part of Turkey..Any other country would have acted the same way if they were stabbed in their back..
Question. where the 6,000,000 Orthodox Christian peoples of Turkey went after 1914 probably evaporated or maybe the cannibal Turks gobbled them up.
