Many volunteers and veterans are taking part in the opposition rallies taking place in Yerevan’s France Square, who say that the Armenian authorities should not be allowed to make new concessions in the Artsakh issue.
The Armenian Report spoke with Ashot Sevyan, a participant in all the three Artsakh wars and a resident of Charektar village in Artsakh’s Shahumyan region.
We caught up with Sevyan and his wife Anahit and daughter Marie in France Square.
Sevyan became known when he refused to leave his village after the 44-day war, although according to a trilateral statement signed on November 9, the village of Charektar in the Shahumyan region passed to Azerbaijan — but thanks to him the village did not pass to Azerbaijan.
“I’m urging everyone to use me as an example and try to fight agains the struggle. My example showed that if you fight and you do not give up, it is possible to put a stop to further loss,” he said.
Touching upon the question that although he had fought to defend Artsakh and didn’t surrender his village to Azerbaijanis — despite that police in Yerevan detained him using brute force. Sevyan said that he believes it’s due to the fear of authorities.
“They do not need people like us, they are scared, they will try to oppress us all. But if 10 million Azerbaijanis did not oppress me, they defenitly cannot,” he said.
His daughter Mari emphasized that she wants to see a proud, strong Artsakh again, and his wife Anahit said that one should not deny and forget the blood shed by the Armenians.
“We are ready to fight for every inch of land, for every bright memory of every Armenian,” said Anahit.
