Yerevan turned 2808 years old. On October 10, 2026, the city celebrated Erebuni-Yerevan — its annual birthday — with stages and concerts set up across the center. I walked between them, stopping at different stages to catch parts of the performances and the crowds filling the streets, and the night ended with fireworks over Victory Park, lighting up the sky above the whole city.
About Erebuni-Yerevan
Erebuni-Yerevan is the birthday of Armenia’s capital, celebrated every October since 1968. Yerevan traces its origin to 782 BC, when the Urartian king Argishti I founded the fortress of Erebuni — the name “Yerevan” itself comes from Erebuni, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Every year the celebration fills the city with free concerts, decorations, and performances, and closes with fireworks.
