109 years ago, Armenians suffered the first genocide of the 20th century. In Erevan, Armenians commemorate this tragedy with a torchlight march through the streets of the capital towards the genocide memorial on April 24. Celebrations continue around the monument the following day. The European network of l’Oeuvre d’Orient, made up of French, Polish, Swiss and Monegasque associations, paid tribute to the 1.5 million victims. This is a token of friendship between the Churches of Europe and the Church and people of Armenia, the first Christian people in history. source
