In March 1921, on Hardenbergstrasse in West Berlin, a single gunshot echoed through European history. Soghomon Tehlirian executed the verdict against Talaat Pasha, the chief architect of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. The legendary Berlin trial that followed resulted in Tehlirian’s complete acquittal, inspiring legal scholar Raphael Lemkin to coin the word “genocide” and draft the foundations of modern international law.
Yet the story of Armenians in Germany goes far beyond 1921. Today, between 60,000 and 100,000 Armenians live across the Federal Republic of Germany, forming one of the most respected, educated, and prosperous diaspora communities in Western Europe.
