Small correction, Thanatos doesn't have a scythe, he instead wields a sword, an inverted torch and sometimes carries a butterfly as his symbol

Actually in greek mythology it's not depicted as a sinister, but as a very gentle and kind deity who carries the souls of the dead in the after life with compassion and care. After all he's a very misunderstood character like many others who tries to do his work.
