Mary I and Elizabeth I were the half-sisters who dramatically shaped England’s religious and political landscape. Discover how Mary’s fervent Catholicism led to widespread persecution, earning her the moniker “Bloody Mary,” while Elizabeth’s pragmatic Protestantism ushered in a golden age of exploration, cultural flourishing, and the defeat of the Spanish Armada, solidifying her legacy as “The Virgin Queen.”

Thanks for a fascinating history lesson. Thoroughly enjoyed 😊
Thank you. Fascinating.
The Tudors did an excellent hatchet job on Mary, as they did with Richard iii
Thanks!
Great narration!
Elizabeth wasnt a virgin
Bloody Mary is such an unfortunate name for an English tragedy
I'm an American and when studying English royal history; Queen Elizabeth I truly impressed me in particular.
Vowing to never marry after the horrors she saw.. after her father wanting a male heir… she was brilliant.
Watching this helped me understand the era better.
So meaningful! The wisdom of the old days is priceless!
Curtsy
Kyle. And no more blows dearest ones.
Its fine-
You tame me for nothing! Give it up I'll win!
Elizabeth brought many years of steadiness to the realm, especially with regards to religion. She made a lot of good decisions.

A truly fascinating and informative documentary! The comparison between Queens Mary I and Elizabeth I not only helps viewers better understand their personalities, religious beliefs, and policies, but also highlights the complexity of the Tudor era—where power, faith, and survival were deeply intertwined. I was especially impressed by how the documentary presented the historical context and the immense pressures both women faced while ruling a divided England. Elizabeth I truly stood out for her political savvy and far-reaching vision, while Mary I emerges as a tragic figure, driven by deep faith and unwavering determination. Valuable material, beautiful visuals, and engaging narration—definitely worth watching!
Henry VIII ruled for 38 years and killed between 57,000 and 72,000 people. Mary I ruled for 5 years and killed 280 people. Henry killed between 4 and 5 people per day; Mary didn't even kill 0.15 per day. It's a matter of proportionality. It's not that difficult.
Henry was England's caligula.
In 5 years, Mary burned alive almost 300 protestants in comparison to Elizabeth who
reigned for 45 years but executed 250 "heretics". 250 executions for religious reasons is a lot but if Mary had lived, reigned for 45 years like Elizabeth, and also continued her religious executions, she would have been on pace to murder 3,000 of England's citizens. Mary burned alive an average of 60 people per year where Elizabeth executed 5 people per year of her 45 year reign. I think Mary earned the moniker "Bloody Mary"
Y’all should do one on Val Kilmer
Bloody Mary is such an unfortunate name for an English tragedy. I am heartened that her image is finally being rehabilitated after the smear campaign that destroyed her reputation.
Their father, The 8th Henry part of the house of both york and lancaster who was OBSESSED with a son managed to produce TWO of the FIRST QUEENS of England who actually ruled that went down in history for their own reasons.
Highly recommend watching The Other Boleyn Girl. Great cast and very entertaining story about a good part of this drama. Eric Bana plays King Henry and Natalie Portman plays Anne Boleyn. She drove him absolutely crazy with her celibacy 😂. Nearly tore the whole country apart just to sleep with her. Even after having courted her sister. I guess it's also rumored that she slept with her brother to cover up a miscarriage, which ended up getting her branded a witch. I think it was just him trying to get out of the marriage though. Scandalous story.
Thanks to your channel, I have learned a lot of very good and useful information. Thank you for giving value.❤
What about Lady Jane? I know 9 day queen but still a Tudor queen. Also, Mary had red hair like her sister, father, and mother.
Elizabeth funded the African slave trade too. Mary Tudor and Mary Queen of Scots didn't. I notice how none of these historical documentaries mention that she did that though, and she's still considered "great". Henry VIII and Elizabeth should be the ones called bloody in my opinion. 🤷🏽♀️
It's interesting
I admire Mary for not putting her sister to death. Mary helped raise Elizabeth and loved her.
BLOODY MARY, does!! Deserve her name!!
Bloody Marry got the name but Henry 7th , Henry 8th and Elizabeth all killed more people
I had no idea that Sir Walter Raleigh was also a poet.
Amazing documentary, Queen Mary laid a lot of ground work for Queen Elizabeth, so she cannot take 100percent credit for everything. Heck she couldn’t even make a decision and stick to it. Always changing her mind with the way the wind blew. I think she had luck on her side with a lot of the hard work already done. She just spent a lot of time trying to keep her throne , playing with a married man and whimpering about what happened to her mother in my opinion.
Thank you so much for uploading this amazing documentary that is helpful in understanding the life of the TUDORS ❤
Mary certainly had a lucky escape from marrying her cousin because he became her father in law….
This is something Elizabeth learned. Due to their positions, there was no acceptable candidate for husband material.
