This is a modern telling. Prometheus never remained in torment for the sake of humans' retaining the gift of fire. The gift is symbolic of libido anyway, creativity and inventiveness, not the physical process of rapid oxidation.
Prometheus is my most favorite Greek Titan as he cared about and loved humanity as he sacrificed his freedom to give them the scared fire to save them from being afraid of the darkness again and even when being offered by Zeus to get his freedom again by not offering knowledge to humanity, he refused the offer, which I will always see him as the most bravest and heroic of the Titans because of that as he was one of the most oldest beings who existed before the Olympians and one of the most powerful, but he chooses to do the right thing and not caring about control or power which makes me feel that he and Hades would have been the better kings of both the Titans and the Olympians and they would have break the cycle of the paranoia and not being corrupted by the power that comes from the top position of their fellow pantheons.
