In 476, the last Western Roman Emperor, Romulus Augustulus, was deposed by Odoacer, a Germanic barbarian leader who commanded mercenary troops and federated peoples within the Roman army itself. This date is symbolically considered the end of the Western Roman Empire. But what happened to the Roman soldiers after the fall of the Western Roman Empire? That is what we will explore in this video.

Being a History buff I enjoy these videos. I have been interested in the Roman Empire since I was a kid.
This video offers a fascinating and well-researched look into a topic that's often overlooked: the lives of Roman soldiers after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. The clear structure and detailed explanations make the complex history easy to understand. While the animation style is somewhat simple, the content itself is so engaging that it more than makes up for it. Thank you for this insightful and valuable piece of content!

Oh boy
This is historically sound. But I think Odoacer should be pronounced with a k.

Makes it sound less like rome died; and more like it simply evolved and adapted.

Imagine standing guard as the empire crumbles…
One day you serve Rome.
The next day—Rome no longer exists.
What does a soldier do when his empire dies?
