I’m fully French Canadian, my family on both sides settled Quebec in the early 1600’s and were Normans. Most of us are also descended from Rollo. Also, in the documentary you mentioned historians being unsure where Rollo and his people were from… Quebec had done a DNA study where they studied the dna of known Normans descended from Rollo and his people (they exhumed graves from known Normans who settled Quebec, such as my ancestors from the early 1600’s). They concluded that based on dna, they were definitely Scandinavian and were from Gotland (Sweden).
Today, there's only the Norwegian wealth-fund left 😉

I want to start by saying this has been the most accurate documentary on Rollo that I have herd so far. As a direct descendant myself through Sir Knight Richard "The Niger" de Hill. One lineage that the house of Normandy disassociates itself from was Sir Knight Robert Carthose > Richard de Hill's father were the first Normand's to join into the first crusade. Worried about Robert and his sons success in England Robert's half sibling William with help from his Father William Norman King of England went to war with Robert Carthose and imprisoned him. Robert's mother and William King of England's "Illegitimate wife" who come from French royal liniage >>>Anges de Ribemont>Duchess of Normandy had more claim to the Crown of England than anyone of the House of Normandy. <<<Maybe another documentary for you.

Fun fact, the Capet kings come from Rollo's granddaughter Adela of Aquitaine, wife of the first Capet king, and mother of the second Capet king. Every king of France since Robert II comes from Rollo. Think of the king of Spain and the Gran Duke of Luxembourg, who are Borbouns.
Have any of you watched Versailles? The actor who played Aethelstan in Vikings plays Louis XIV in Versailles. Aethelstan reincarnated in Rollo's descendant.

Many villages and towns in Normandy have a Norman (not French) toponymy and many people have Norse family names of Viking origin in old Norse, which no longer exist in the Danish, Norwegian and Swedish languages.

I have major insecurities and poor self-esteem, but if I comment here that I'm a descendant of a 1000 year old Viking (which is really just BS) I'll have a shallow, inflated self image and then I can ignore my failures in life and pretend I matter.

I've been researching my Cherokee ancestry for years. We were told by my mother's uncle that our Stewart last name was pulled out of this air by our Great Gfather to get a railroad job. Turns our that was not true. We are the 1776 Cape Fear Patrick Stewart descendants. This traces to Robert the Bruce & back to Rollo. My DNA came back 85% to that region. Minus any Native, but it did also note NC on my chart. I'm so excited. 67,000 living relatives worldwide. Who knew. I couldn't be more proud to finally have a story and some understanding of my people.

I am showing I have dna relatives from Norway, Denmark and the Orkney Islands and I have zero idea of how. I only have Norman ancestors that I have found genealogically speaking that would make sense and some from Kievan Rus through the Hungarian royal line and we are speaking around the time of Rollo for my DNA matches. My ancestor was Violante of Hungary, Queen of Aragon and Matilde Brienne, daughter of the John I of Brienne, Count of Eu and of course Rollo through William the Conqueror. I mainly have Spanish Ancestry from Spanish Aristocracy. So at this point I am at a lost of those DNA matches. 🤷♀

Regin – king, Rus, doesnt need explanation, island Rugen, areas near Rugen, Yamsburg vikings, Slavic tribes of baltic coast from Danmark to Estonia, Prussia, all at some point were balto-slavic, or Russian, Rus, to some extent. Thus viking chieftan calked Reginherus, can be easilly read as king of the Rus. Back in the day baltic was a metropolia, with sweeds, norwegians, danes, germans, slavic peoples all intermingling, marrying etc. For example, king Sweyn Forkbeard had a wife named Svyatoslava, Wendish ( Russian) queen. Kings of Rugen, were Vitslav, Barnuta,, and other slavic names were commonplace, all russian, slavic peoples are someehat russian, speaking some dialect of russian language, poles etc. Thus all white Europeans are brothers, remember that. After looking at peoples comments, as to how many generations back they were directly descendant from Rollo, I too, was intrigued, in my case 33 generations back, so, greetings to all my cousins. Rock the ship, cousins. Remember who you are.
