From what I've read of him, Henry was a vicious, nasty piece of work.
Sounds like a wise ruler, perhaps not so good a man. But he got the job done as best he could. He presaged Machiavelli. And, he was lucky in much of his early life. The White Ship disaster was pivotal to everything since.
Interesting and informative.
Great show.
Henry died in Lyons le Foret to the East of Rouen. Remnants of his castle there can still be seen. Lyons le Foret is said by many to be France's most beautiful town.
Latest evidence proves he did not die of eating too many lampreys .
Henry I is my foavourite
6:35 i'm happy so we can skip the boring stuff at the start of someone his life.
Thank you so much for making a very dry subject at school absolutely fascinating in adulthood 😊
I think he was a good king who murdered his brother.
Oh, beautiful England. 😢
This video and your video on William Rufus directly contradict each other – the vid on William II goes into great detail about how William I made Robert heir to the throne of England but he was usurped by Rufus, whereas this has the exact opposite, William I making William II heir to England then being challenged by Robert?
The Norman’s were evil vile people they persecuted the native Ethnic Ænglisċe people my people william and his vile murderous Norman’s killed Ænglisċe men women and children it didn’t make no difference to William the cruel evil tyrant of Normandy plus the Norman’s was few in number in Ænglalande that why they got wiped along with the poxy French language out in Ænglalande thanks to the black plague but it wasn’t quick enough considering by this time the Norman’s had messed up our beautiful Ænglisċe language and trust me old Ænglisċe sound so much better then the modern Ænglisċe we native ethnic Ænglisċe speaking now this is a quote from JRR TOLKIEN the French Norman’s was the worse thing to ever happen to Ænglisċe history and the Ænglisċe language and he is 1000%right on that fact so to you people in the comments stop glorifying child killers because that what the Norman’s did to my and my people ancestors look up the historical facts in future Ænglalande and the native Ethnic Ænglisċe people our free of French Norman’s tyranny rule thank the lord

He killed his brother. The king 👑
My (limited) understanding is that Matilda p*ssed off many of the English through an arrogant attitude, the whole of London for instance. Good post, by the way. I think I like Henry, by the standards of his day. If Matilda let Stephen off the hook at one point, he returned the favour later, which prolonged the period of civil war. Perhaps it would have been better if one or both were more ruthless, as Henry was with his brother.
So many ads 💔
Matilda died at the age of 38
There are five kings who I believe were the greatest for England
King Alfred the Great
King Cnut the Great
King Henry Beauclerc
King Henry Curtmantle
King Richard the Lionheart
I've always wondered if Robert had several of his siblings assassinated all of them except The one sister who became an abbess died suspiciously
