It is interesting to compare the Churchills to the Franklin Roosevelts. Both upper class couples, both with multiple children, each couple lost a child; and both husband and wife were very busy with the husband's political role. Both therefore spent little time with their children, who were cared for by nannies, governesses, boarding schools, etc. And most of those children had troubled lives with multiple marriages and divorces. I feel that if you have children you owe them a duty to care for them and give them as much quality and quantity time as you can. If the Churchills would have had access to modern day medications for depression, their lives might have been much easier. I just feel sorry for people back then; even wealthy people had their problems. I think Clementine more than made up for her lack of a university degree with voracious reading. And she had a knack for languages which certainly stood her in good stead in the world of politics and diplomacy. Eleanor had gone to a finishing school in Europe and also picked up foreign languages in her studies and travels. Both women were extremely bright and had to put up with their husbands' cagey behavior. Winston would erupt in bad behavior; FDR kept his feelings very close — he was a complex person and hard to get to know. People often thought they were close to him but he could close people off when they no longer were useful to him, for example, his secretary Missy LeHand.
This woman was a fox. Old Churchill kicked way outside his coverage
Heaven help me . When I was 15 c.70 years I passed top exams to let me go to university. My mother said to me Goodness I had no idea you were clever.
You don’t want to be a Blue stocking. I had a family and finally went to university in my 30s. Life was not easy for females. I made sure my own children did what they wanted. They happily got their doctorates plus raised lov.ely children. How life has changed.
Canada Australia were part on the war. A couple of years before the Americans. Credit where credit is due.
Love the videos guys, amazing stuff, have you done a video on Franz Joseph of Austria, his reign had so much going on in it and i think a video on his life would be cool
Behind every great man, there’s often a greater woman. Clementine was truly Churchill’s anchor through chaos and war. 💔
