What a interesting video🤔 about Despina.👩❄️ I never heard about the goddess of winter🌨️ before until now. Despite having a rough start😞 and abandoned by both her parents, at the end she found happiness☺️ and love🩵 from Boreas🪽, the god of the North wind🌬️🥶 who became her husband👩❤️💋👨 and Persephone🌺, who the two sisters👭 bonded🫂 and become very close friends👩❤️👩 even though they represent two different seasons❄️🌷. Hopefully you'll do videos💻 about their bothers Arion🐎🪽 and Plutus👱🪙 next.🤞 I like to see those videos.👩💻
I feel sorry for these two because it's almost if she didn't like them because they came from a lower God Zeus did the exact same thing and had Persephone who' Zeus ended up raping later. and she desired her. After seeing what her mum did for six month s she gave us winter by putting the world in a sleep and slowing down which helped people.
Poor Despoina. At least, she finally found her husband who chose her, she punished both of her parents for their evil, and she was civil and became friends with her half sister Persephone.
It’s interesting that she’s the goddess of Winter because that fits nicely with the Mesopotamian myth of the Seasons. In the Ishtar myth when Ishtar returns from the Underworld she discovers that her husband Tammuz has been unfaithful to her. Tammuz is the god of growing things (ie the god of Spring). In rage she condemns Tammuz to the Underworld, but his sister who is essentially the Ice Queen (ie the goddess of Winter) volunteers to swap places with him for part of the year. This is how the Sumerians/Babylonians explained the Seasons.
Not even half the myth is a lie, EVERYTHING is just a lie exceot for her birth, there was no show of hate towards the child but rather Demeter got called the enrage at the injustice she suffered by the hands of Poseidon, not bc of a kid. Despoine/Despina was never supposed to be known or what kind of goddess she was and we will never know due to the Elusian mysteries being mysteries. She never had a husband, much less Boreas who already has the consort Oreithyia. Not to mention that she is one of the central focuses in the cult and the Akadians very much like her and offered fruits to her. There is more to say about her becaus eof her possible relations with minoan or proto indo european godesses or even persephone, artemis and hecate but lets lie instead why not!
Besides her birth, I've never heard the rest of this myth. Is it made up? It's shameful to spread misinformation. I'm all for new stories and fiction but passing a fan-fic off as truth is disingenuous and harmful. I've tried to find any sources for it but can't. Boreas was never married to Despoina and even her real name is lost to history.
I hate to say this but this is not correct. There isn't a single mention of Demeter rejecting Despoine. She is indeed the daughter of Demeter and Poseidon and Demeter was angered because of this unwanted union but She did not reject Her daughter. There's just nothing in any source that talks about that. Due to the fact that Despoine is a Goddess heavily tied to a mystery cult, there's just not a lot we can say for certain about Her because it was considered sinful to divulge such knowledge to the uninitiated. There's also nothing stating She is a Goddess of Winter. The sources indicate She's like Her mother and sister and is tied to fertility
I'm 38 and I've loved mythology all my life. It's amazing that I can still learn about interesting gods and goddesses that I've never heard of. Plus I've always loved Ice and winter based powers. So when I saw a Greek goddess of winter.. instant click to watch lol.
This actually reminds me of Rapunzel and Cassandra in the tangled series. They have a bit in common and I’m not related by blood they still remain friends and sisters.
I don't usually enjoy Greek myths but this one was really good. Also I love the art in your videos. It's really great. It could be like a graphic novel series

Actually, Despoina isn't the goddess of winter. It's Khione.

Arion was not winged he was just a immortal or mortal horse
the gods were so rapy.
If demeter was a horrible mother and neglected her duties, why didnt zeus take away her godly powers if winter was that bad

Winter! ❤
Guys, stop hatin' Poseidon. "Gods don't have to choose. We take." Remember?
Despina may not have her mother's love, but she has her husband's and sister's love instead. ❤❄

🤔Imagine if Despina had met Hades; what relationship that could of been?!

The Greek gods scattering their seed as usual
A nice interesting story. I am glad this goddess was able to find peace, healing, and love.

Etymologically the "mistress of the house".
