Right now there is an attack on BTC from code devs. Bitcoin Core devs in v30 are changing OP_RETURN parameter 1250x times bigger from 80 to 100 000 bytes. That allows malware, nasty images like CP to be stored in blockchain forever. Why give BTC enemies new attack vector and delay adoption? Because of this there will be less nodes in future not only because of blockchain size but also from illegal content that will be hosted on chain! @Bitcoin_University and @bitcoinmechanic have really good arguments why that could be bad in the long term for BTC reputation.
