Armenia’s New Strategic Role: From Moscow’s Shadow to Washington’s Partner?

A US-brokered peace declaration between Armenia and Azerbaijan — brokered by Donald Trump — could mark a turning point in the region. It grants Armenia full sovereignty over a new transit route, elevates its status as a US strategic partner, and addresses issues like hostages, Artsakh refugees, and Azerbaijani forces on Armenian soil. But with Baku already pushing new demands, doubts remain over the deal’s durability. CivilNet’s Eric Hacopian speaks with Timothy Jemal, President of Global ARM, about the risks, opportunities, and shifting regional power dynamics.

There is no such country as America. It's USA. America is a continent where you find more than 30 countries. That's a language abuse, the language of imperialism. Better you go back to school to learn it and to learn respect for other people. And how to be more accurate if you want to talk about the world.

The Republic Of Armenia's Jermuk region is under Azeri occupation, Armenia under Civil Contract is unable to militarily defend its territory. The US will never physically defend Armenia'a "paper," de jure sovereignty over the Syunik Corridor.

In 2019 the USA abandoned the Kurds when the Turkish Army fired artillery on the US military.

The USA abandoned it's Afghan allies, and abandoned US bases in the summer of 2021.

Again and again, the US is retreating from its role as the Global "Policeman."

The idea that a Blackwater-type company and the US government, will, even symbolically, protect Syunik, is foolhardy.

Aliyev doesn’t care about any sanction or ruling. A leopard doesn’t change its spots & this demon will continue his reign of terror. The US was looking for a way to get boots on the ground in the caucuses to protect/increase its own interests. This “agreement” has nothing to do with peace or protection.

For decades, Armenia pursued misguided policies and followed the wrong path. At last, this administration is showing common sense by seeking integration with its neighbors. By setting aside emotions and the legacy of being a victim of imperial powers such as Russia and the USSR, Armenia has the chance to approach its neighbors with humility and work towards peace and prosperity for its people. Better late than never.

America’s sudden interest in Armenia is clearly tied to its broader agenda with Iran, a connection CivilNet refuses to acknowledge. Tell me, Timothy, how are we supposed to trust a U.S. government that is funding, enabling, and politically blessing a genocide in Gaza? If that’s what they support there, why would we believe they have good intentions here? We are in a crises.

Well, aliev got all he wanted with no obligation to do anything. Now he has even less incentive to sign the peace agreement. And he is free to do and say anything he wants which is actually he is already doing. Armenia, as always, got again promises that this will happen and that will happen. Honestly hard to believe. Not only aliev got what he wanted, trump got what he wanted: he “ended the war”, he got the road named after beloved himself, he got the appeal from both aliev and pashinian for Nobel price nomination. With his short attention span it is interesting when we will see all these follow ups promised to Armenia. Until then Armenia has nothing!

A lobbyist is praising his own work and presenting it as a great win for Armenian & worth the money he received for it. It's not an independent/objective analysis, but full of wishful thinking and promotion of his lobbying services. Get a real analyst the next time to interview, stop this gaslighting.

No, you are wrong. The road will be operated by the American company in the front with Armenian side in the back and Armenians will have “the access to the information” gathered by the Americans. Where is here the sovereignty of Armenia? Aliev got what he wanted, azeris will be traveling through Armenia without “seeing Armenian face”. Will Armenians have the word who can or can not enter the Armenian territory? Will ramil safarov have unimpeded access to the passage through Armenia? Those questions need to be answered

I really appreciate Mr. Jamal. But something doesn’t add up. The US just got finished bombing Iran. And now they’re OK with this? And it’s not a phobia or anything, because I have jewish family members, but this entire conversation doesn’t mention Israel once, and the influence that Israel (and therefor their ally Aliyev) has on the United States. I really love everything he’s saying and a lot of the academic analysts are really happy but, I have so much apprehension after a long conversation like this leaves key common sense concerns at loose ends. I am very sure that Mr. Jamal is doing his best.

US spin merchant Timothy Jemal doesn't answer how the so-called 'Trump Road' will actually work, given that on the one hand he states that the road is under Armenia's jurisdiction, while at the same time the road is supposed to be 'unhindered', which by definition means no customs or other checks. Moreover, Mr. Jemal fails to answer how the US can possibly provide security guarantees, when this isn't mentioned in detail in what was initialled. He talks about prisoner release and the right of return to Artsakh, as well as his opinion on the Azeri invasions as being 'in the conversation', but he is not a State Dept official, and discussions means precisely nothing, because nothing was codified, even though it was only a non-binding document!
