Between 1942 and 1945, Zhukov experiences both his peak and his condemnation. While planning the brilliant encirclement of Stalingrad, he turns Rzhev into a meat grinder, sacrificing hundreds of thousands in frontal assaults. At Kursk, he abandons haste, exhausts the Germans with deep defenses, and breaks the Wehrmacht. In 1945, he wins the race for Berlin at the cost of unnecessary massacres. A hero of victory, he becomes a political threat: humiliated, exiled, erased from history, only returning after Stalin’s death. In the end, he dies a legend—used and discarded by the power he saved.
