the kid is a really good carpenter but one thing that makes him a ametuer wood glue if you are not using nails althought nails are the better option im not carpenter but nails and/or wood glue is the way to go lets hope the next time he gets contracted to do a floor to be sure he has what he needs and not just 2 hammers
