Fresh from victory at Issus, Alexander turns to Tyre, a wealthy Phoenician power and island fortress, vital for cutting off the Persian naval threat. When his demand for surrender is refused, he orders a monumental undertaking: a causeway connecting the mainland to the island, built amidst constant attacks and bad weather. Using towers, catapults, and battering rams, he coordinates an assault by land and sea and breaches the walls. The capture, after seven months, turns into a massacre: thousands are killed, many are crucified, and tens of thousands are enslaved. With Tyre fallen, the Persian fleet loses its strength, and the path to Egypt lies open.

that's tire.
On the TV show Smallville, the character Lionel Luthor saw himself as a modern-day Philip II of Macedon to such an extent that named his first-born son after Philip's own son, Alexander the Great. It actually seems appropriate that Superman’s archenemy Lex Luthor was named after Alexander the Great.

Whoa.
When Alexander sought an alliance with the Tyrians by letting him sacrifice in that temple of Melkal-Heracles, the Tyrians killed his angelophores (Jerusalem for the time) and sacrificed Greek prisoners during the siege, they went looking for them. As for the 2000 who were executed, it was either by drowning or they were massacred during the 4th fall, the crucifixion comes from Roman historians.

Interesting
<also, king Nebuchadnezzar II (r. 605–562 BC), of the babylonian empire overthrew Tyre during his campaigns>
In order to capture Tyre, Alexander built a causeway to connect the mainland with the island and allow the army to pass through with its siege towers, and he gathered a huge fleet from Cyprus and the rest of Phoenicia, which he captured, threatening that if their fleets (which were serving in the Persian fleet) did not defect to the Macedonians, he would destroy their cities. Thus, Alexander threw 2 triangles with a crowbar, gained strength for the conquest of Tyre, and disarmed the Persian fleet that was in the Aegean. Meanwhile, the Persian admiral Pharnabazus, with the few ships he had left, was defeated in the Aegean and captured.
After the victory of Issus, Alexander, instead of pursuing Darius deep into the East, chose to descend south to seize the Mediterranean possessions of the Persian Empire, to neutralize the Persian fleet that raided the Aegean, under Memnon and then Pharnabazus. Finally, on the island of Syphnus, the latter met with Demosthenes and the Spartan general Agios III to prepare uprisings in Greece, striking at Alexander's heels.
