President Donald Trump’s foreign policy is difficult to categorize using conventional labels. It is neither interventionist nor rooted in nation-building, and it is certainly not isolationist—despite persistent claims from the Left.
A more accurate description would be to call Trump’s approach a “Vise Policy.” He applies sustained economic, diplomatic, and political pressure to “squeeze” renegade countries rather than coercion by violence. This strategy was clearly on display in his handling of Venezuela’s Maduro regime. And there’s little reason to believe this was a one-off.
