False reports of Alexander’s death incited Thebes to rebel, funded by Persian gold and fueled by Demosthenes. Alexander, furious, marched from Thrace in record time. After having his peace offer rejected and seeing Thebans using Persian weapons, he ordered an all-out attack. Combining siege tactics with a surprise attack from the internal garrison, the Macedonians crushed the Theban defense. The punishment was annihilation: the city was razed, 6,000 killed, and 30,000 enslaved. Only the house of the poet Pindar was spared. The terror silenced Greece, and Alexander finally set off to conquer Asia.

Idiotic sensationalism
On the TV show Smallville, the character Lionel Luthor saw himself as a modern-day Philip II of Macedon to such an extent that named his first-born son after Philip's own son, Alexander the Great. It actually seems appropriate that Superman’s archenemy Lex Luthor was named after Alexander the Great.
The history of Greece is insane
Interesting
It's easy to Revere and admire. Somebody like Alexander the Great but sometimes I think the sorrow that he caused to some people like the thiebens gets overlooked. Seems like in the ancient world. They had it pretty rough
Because they killed the Macedonian garrison when rumours said he died in a campaign in Thrace.
The Battle of Leuctra didn't take place during the Peloponnesian War, but 33 years after that war ended.
appreciate that the ads are at the end
That's why I never liked him a d never will do. Yes I am Theban. But his actions on the population and the city were not fair.
Because they were scoundrels who made peace to his face after he generously spared their city just to attack him we he turned his back. The only person i know of that he unfairly mistreated was the Persian governor of gaza. Do that video! Also id live to see a video about the indian philosopher that Alexander befriended. I can not find one im thinking about making that video myself but you could do it instead
Hail to the Divine Alexander the Great!
Thebes during the Persian Wars had allied with the Persians and now rebelled with Persian gold against the pan-Hellenic union of the Macedonians, which if it had succeeded would have dissolved the latter and Greece would have been at the mercy of the Persians. Alexander did what was right, during the plundering he did not touch the temples of the gods and the house of the poet Pinaros, while even after the destruction the city was rebuilt but did not regain its former glory. The promises are fulfilled.
