Today I travel on an old Soviet loco-hauled train in Georgia, complete with a very outdated interior, as our 50 year old train slowly battles its way over the challenging inclines of the Surami Pass!

those double decker stadlers will never go above 110km/h speed btw, and they were bought from russia, they were supposed to service moscow airport but didnt fit requirements or something like that
didn’t know we had those here in GA
You should ride the Khashuri-Zestafoni train nicknamed 'masterao' when you get the chance, it's just one train car being pulled by those green locomotives. Truly a unique experience.
We used to have proper direct routes from Tbilisi to Kutaisi in the past without all these hassles of losing wagons and waiting 25 minutes but the pandemic forced GR to cancel many routes and not all of them have recovered still (for example Tbilisi-Sadakhlo, Tbilisi-Nikozi, Kutaisi-Tkibuli) etc. Now even the Tbilisi-Kutaisi route is gone, though there have been new reforms in the past 1.5 months and GD promised new trains on. many routes, including Tb-Borjomi and Tb-Kutaisi, so let's see.
Also you do not need to get onto the central station building to access the train platforms. You can just use the stairs leading up from next to station square metro's entrance, or the nearby bridge crossing into nakhalovka. To change platforms, there are underground passages.
Also the Tbilisi-Baku train shown on this video no longer runs. We have a new, very modern and luxury train now.
10:37 THAT TRAIN SOUNDED LIKE A SEAL
They open all the shops after the majority of the days foot traffic has already left. It just seems weird how recovering communists can't seem to get how free market capitalism works.
VL11, VL10, VL8, there are the most masses
2:12 IS THAT A CHME!?
So china will own this railroad once the gov can't pay belt and road more like bend over and raw dog
In Canada, the national passenger rail carrier runs coaches that were manufactured over 70 years ago. These, built by Budd, were recently certified for continued daily service. However, more recent wagons, manufactured 45 years ago, are now being removed from service with no plans for rebuilding. Age of equipment is one factor in suitability. Design is another.
the ass of the world
9 lari? It used to be 5. Anyway, $3-4 dollars for a once-a-day 5.5-6hr journey vs $10 for a 3hr journey by bus or minibus which leave every 30min, this is why the train was almost empty and nobody takes it anymore.
6:20 I think you were traveling in a former compartment car that had been converted into a regular car
This is why I am not lover of USSR
You guys should check out mongolias trains 🙂
3:51 these locs have been repaired in Russia in 2017 and it was not possible to choose the paint scheme. Btw, speaking of carriages with those seats, they look like modernised Tver plant carriages (their index is supposedly 61-409). The shape of the windows shows that all the work has been done in Dnipro if I'm not mistaken.
it's more modern then in USA and more on time than the German DB
Your video was fantastic. I enjoyed it to the very end. Thank you so much☺🚊
Brutlism is great when done correctly! Station looks great!
5:51 heeeeehh bah 🤮🤮
Me chilling in Batumi rn.
Those pantographs are having an active seizure
“The night mail train through Sri Lanka” says enough 😮
3:50 the British man is complaining about train resembling Russian design and is enfuriated and demands European Union sanctions immedeately 😂😂😂😂
Hi Albie have you ever thought about doing a video from Zurich to Grindelwald it's an amazing trip i have done several times Regards David
Love the Brutalist style architecture
The design of all Soviet brutalist architecture was deliberate. It was designed to instill fear of the state. They said they wanted any government or State building to look like it was an unassailable authority. It was disgusting from an aesthetic POV.
Randomly given a seat in the far corner? Someone is listening.
So I will add a little statement! loco train has been changed for more then one year! Qutaisi line has been terminated until 2027. And ozurgeti route got new trains
10:06 1. The Pioneer (Azerbaijan, 1926): The USSR's very first electric commuter line launched between Baku and Sabunchi to carry oil workers. The Capital Route (Russia, 1929) 2.The second line connected Moscow to Mytishchi, bringing high-speed electric transit to the heart of the country.
3.The Mountain Heavyweight (Georgia, 1932) . The third major step was the Surami Pass, marking the USSR's first use of electric power for heavy mainline freight and passenger trains on steep mountain tracks.
это в каком году снято?)
Can anyone here in Tbilisi tell me how often these older Soviet locomotives come through the main station? In my time here I havent seen any yet
I like the positive, optimistic tone of the narration. Well done!
I find the architecture interesting. They've also proved that you can have punctual rail service at a reasonable price! A minute early, no less.. Thanks again! 👏😊
6:39 Kirkorov?
13:49 That's actually not that much of a custom built bus but rather a factory truck repurposed to a bus called "Vahtovka" used to deliver workers to "Vahta" – remote job site locations. Mostly used in forest – oil – construction industries but sometimes also used as a regular bus for little settlements where there are no regular roads.
5:37 Classless system, like Marx bequeathed
