University Theatre dances its way into the 2025 spring season
Fresno State’s University Theatre and The Contemporary Dance Ensemble presents the fourth production of its 2024-25 mainstage season, “Stability/Change,” under the artistic direction of Kenneth Balint.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14-15 and Feb. 18-22 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at the John W. Wright Theatre at Fresno State. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for Fresno State faculty, staff, alumni and military and $10 for all students. Children under 5 are not permitted.
The Contemporary Dance Ensemble will present six unique repertory dance works that explore themes of social activism, nonsensical rules and regulations, abstract visions infused with deep human emotions, family bonds, belonging and a nostalgic look at the 1980s. The pieces feature choreography by Kenneth Balint, Fresno State faculty; Angela Rosenkrans, dance program director at Scottsdale Community College in Arizona; Waeli Wang, movement artist and educator; and Abigail Salyer, Fresno State student.
Bringing these themes to life are Fresno State dancers Juana Cardenas, Dana Cole, Franke Franke, Holly Gabel, Alex Galaviz, Sophia McAllister, Dominique Garcia, Jason Pak, Phoebe Rex, Abigail Salyer, Maria Sy, Churtong Vang, Tommy Vang, Xavier Williams, Esther Xiong, Raven Xiong and Phengkee Yang.
The Contemporary Dance Ensemble remains committed to achieving and maintaining the highest standards of artistry while celebrating contemporary dance in an academic setting. Its mission is to create work that welcomes, educates, embraces and inspires both the audience and the dancers themselves.
