EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: The parents of those servicemen who were killed during the 2020 Artsakh war have joined the two servicemen who are on a hunger strike in Yerevan’s Freedom Square.
The Armenian Report spoke with Garik Galeyan, the father of Mkhitar Galeyan, who died in the 44-day war.
We caught up with Galeyan in Freedom Square who called on all Armenians to fight for Artsakh, not to allow Artsakh to become part of Azerbaijan. He emphasized that they gave the most precious thing for Artsakh, they are ready to remove the authorities of a decisive struggle, to keep Artsakh.
“One shouldn’t love the homeland from a distance, or with words, or with money, or measure the homeland with money. It is necessary to maintain, protect and defend the homeland,” Galeyan told The Armenian Report.
It should be noted that Galeyan’s son Mkhitar Galeyan was drafted into the army on January 17, 2019. He served in the military unit of Hadrut and died during the 44-day war, while rescuing his friend on October 1.
Galeyan’s son Mkhitar was awarded the Combat Service Medal by Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan, his parents refused the medal, noting that it is given by the traitorous authorities.

A real hero's father is a hero either
How about the right to vote for diaspora Armenians? If our politicians would want the diaspora to participate, that’s the way to go. That kind of toxic nationalism is not helpful nor a good Strategie. Populism is the path of the uneducated. We need to be smart and find a path into the future. We are far to unimportant right now to improve our position. We need to get intertwined with our neighbours and build up our technology and weapons sector. So no one would think about attacking us.
