You don't mention the names of the rivals who kept Lancaster out of the governing councils during Richard II's minority. Katherine Swynford is treated dismissively by you, ( poor Constance gets a half sentence) but their relationship was the target of much criticism. They even broke up at one point. Her beauty was widely acknowledged.
John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster, 1st Earl of Richmond is Cheley Len Hokanson's 20th great grandfather!
Cheley Len Hokanson → Carol-Len Hokanson (her mother) → Leonard Emmett Smith (her father) → Viola Winifred Smith (his mother) → Jones David Waggoner (her father) → Martin Franklin Waggoner (his father) → James Waggener (his father) → Catherine Waggoner (his mother) → Reverend Henry Pendleton Gaines (her father) → Private James Henry Gaines, Sr. (his father) → Richard Gaines (his father) → James Gaines (his father) → Blanche Gaines (his mother) → Blanche Kemeys (her mother) → Catherine Herbert (her mother) → Nicholas Herbert (her father) → Mathew Herbert, of Swansea (his father) → Elizabeth Herbert (his mother) → Elizabeth Berkeley (her mother) → George Neville, 4th and de jure 2nd Baron Bergavenny (her father) → Edward Neville, 3rd Baron of Bergavenny (his father) → Joan Beaufort, Countess of Westmorland (his mother) → John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster, 1st Earl of Richmond (her father)
Thanks for the history lesson on John of Gaunt, very informative and well made. I've always been fascinated by John as he responsible for cementing the Lancaster's into place from an historical perspective. John seems incorruptible and honorable under the most difficult of circumstances. The Lancaster's are known to be an argumentative and aggressive group, but John brings a lot of balance to the family, unlike Henry Bolingbroke, who agitates for his own progress and reward, very successfully….
It's worth mentioning at this time that the Lancaster's have now returned to the Portuguese Palace at Belem, my niece is now teaching a music and dance class for local children there….
Can’t help but wonder, if gaunt had taken the thrown, maybe a lot of war may not have happened.
Maybe because he lived his life in the shadows, instead of become king or regent, he was able to accept more.
Great show. I wish, though, when a picture is shown that it would contain information. I see some of the land and would like to know where it is In case I would like to visit.
He’s my Ancestor too!
John of Gaunt is Benedict Cumberbatch’s 17th great grandfather….pretty wild.
So Blanch lancaster was my 20th grandmorher and king Henry iv was my 19th grandfather.
Wow ,how captivating ,As my mother was a Lancaster I found this information most valuable 😊.
Incredibly interesting detailed documentary regarding my 17th great grandfather& many other ancestors!!
Videos like yours are extremely helpful to put genealogical research into perspective which I’m sure you understand can be challenging when so many of the people from this era are intertwined and modern day. People are connected through multiple pathways to these people of historical significance!
Thank you!🇨🇦
Excellent portrayal of a very complicated figure of the 14th century. Gaunt was perhaps the most important political and military figure of the time, second only to his father Edward III.
Hey look! Jamie Lannister!
Lovely, thanks! 👍🏻
I can trace my heritage through my grandmother to John and Kathering from their daughter Joan. When I started to dig into this I thought John was an honorable man for his times and politically saavy.
Excellent work. Voice and elegant English also. Thank you!
This guys voice drives me nuts.
John of Gaunt, best king we never had ❤❤❤.
2nd cousin, x times removed. Anyone else allegedly related?
And his line still occupies the British throne today!!
excellent!
Really interesting I'll look forward to more commentaries
Many have also said this, but he is my 20th great-grandfather through his third wife and their Beaufort descendants.
There is no person called Gaunt.
Great Man !!!
I liked the video. John of Gaunt the red Prince has always been a favorite of mine. It's Lady Margaret Beaufort whom I really like.
❤️🙏❤️
There must have been some freaks in those day inbred as the royals where in those days
