Awesome documentary, greetings from italy!
Why he was so pressed on the press in the amendment , must had a hole in leotards
Interesting but way too many and too frequent ads.
Thank you for this documentary. However, here in America "Piedmont" is pronounced "Peedmont," not "Pee-ayd-mont," and "Montpelier" is pronounced "Mont-pee-lee-er," not "Mont-pel-yay."
James Madison was a filthy antichrist.
The name "Bill of rights" applied to the first 10 amendments is unfortunate, as it has caused a colossal misunderstanding of their nature. In the popular mind they are seen as granting those rights. Nothing could be further from the truth. Those amendments do not "grant" those rights, rather they acknowledge those rights, and constrain governmental actions that would infringe those rights. In actuality, those rights are (as the Declaration of Independence puts it) "endowed by our creator", not by the government. I.e. inherent to us as human beings. It would have better have been titled "Bill of Constraints on Governmental Power that are infringements on particular rights." As that is, in fact, what they are.
It's probably a mischaracterization of the Articles of Confederation as an attempt to govern a new nation, as we were not yet a "nation", but rather a loose confederation of 13 sovereign "states". A situation more akin to modern Europe than to 21st century USA.
E PLURIBUS UNIM. HOW DID WE SURVIVE. WE OWE OUR FOUNDING FATHERS. 🇺🇸
To get a document ratified and approved by the people who needed to be bribed with beer reminds me of today. A great accomplishment indeed. Cut to 1861 when they confronted the hypocrisy of these lofty ideas of liberty amidst the widespread practice of SLAVERY
Yes, the American founders owned slaves, but one must remember that slaveholding was legal in America and took a bloody civil war to start the process of getting rid of it (by Amendment). In addition, the slaves were terrified of being sent back to Africa, for America was their home no matter their condition in life. Sadly, the main issue between the founders was related to foreign policy — those in favor of England and those in favor of France. This led to a bitter divide and loss of friendships.
I hate that our founders owned slaves.
why is there a guy with an english accent talking about the early US?
Way better founding father than a President
James Madison is still a Hero
Madison one of Founding fathers of America
President Madison we thanked You
Madison was a Great President too who worked hard to make America great Today
Thanks for his Patience and Courage.
Politicians today are much more dishonest
More for themselves than theirs country 😢
And not very smart 😢
Thank you so very much for the wonderful reading
Early America 🇺🇸, there was many great men, intelligent love their country ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
he didn't free his slaves because others would make them slaves again, making them worse of than in Madison's care.
Australian here,America was very fortunate to have such outstanding Presidents in the early days of the republic . You were an example to the world.🇺🇸🇦🇺
thank you
I find it interesting even back then how many times they were friends but then would turn around and backstab one another…but somehow come together for the good of the whole nation…..
Madison believed in fairness in government, with limited regard of ecclesiastical influences. This was quite enlightening in the Colonies in the late 18th century. Checks and balances and justice in a secular world.
They say Ole Madison was quite a ladies man of his day.
Had he not married he would have gone to his work from a different direction every morning.
Thanks!
bro JAMES MADISON IS A FOOTBALL PLAYER IN SPURS
I don't think you could 5 Americans who even know about the war or 1812 much less naval battles on the great lakes.
One thing that's changed in my lifetime: many of the intellectuals who provide the discourse we consume have really started to lean on issues of slavery and racism. It's become a major component of all historical topics. It really gets inserted in there. Things used to be different.

I don't want to tarnish Monroe for his views on slavery, however it was a bad choice of his. What I think are his good points was he believed that the Federal Govt needed more power over the states. What we have learned throughout history is we cannot trust corporations to be responsible to insure the environment is being preserved, that employers are being taken care of properly, and that the economy of the nation should be put first over its own gains. Therefore regulation is imperative in order for the country to be successful and lead the world towards a better future. He had this insight. It was a bold move to push for a constitutional government and separation of powers with bill of rights. These are very important ideologies which have kept this country together through the bad times. The biggest black mark on this country was not to abolish slavery as soon as independence was won. I do understand it would've difficult financially for plantation owners and prices would've escalated but it could've been managed and look what it would have prevented for the next 200+ years. Hindsight is 20/20 and we should be going forward instead of going backwards. So yes he has good points and he has bad.
I’m an American and one thing I don’t understand is why the Declaration of Independence is directed toward the king when the king was mostly a figurehead after the restoration and still is largely a ceremonial figurehead . Was attacking the King just a manner of speech and the real target was the parliament / prime minister ?
I just got done reading the biography of Madison so I really enjoyed watching this. Thank you 🙂
James "Big Daddy" Madison knew what he was talking about and he was a legend of Foundation.
🦅
I just started a biography of James Madison , I think him & Jefferson were negatively influenced by the French Revolution.
His brilliance was very key in helping author the constitution.
He may rushed us hastily in a war with Britain , but he did show courage and leadership during war.
He fight for religious freedom is commendable.
Thank you for this documentary , which will help in enjoying and understanding the book.
God bless you!
I am related to James Madison . I live in Madison Ct. which the town was named . Just found out last week.about the naming of my town.
Madison should have given the competing doctor, an apple a day. Every day.
