In this video we show you how to build an earthen oven. Wood-fired earthen ovens are easily documented all the way back the ancient Romans. Likewise, they are easily documented in archaeological evidence and first-hand accounts from the 18th Century. We show you how easy it is to build one. #townsendovens

Glad I found your channel again. How is your daughter?it was so fun to have heron the show with you years ago.
This is so unrealistic; the man is mixing mud with white clothing on. Not a knick of mud on him. If this were me there would be mud everywhere!
Thank you soo much.
Going too build one in April
At my ranch. 73yr. Man
My oven is broken
I would make one for fun. 😊
No chimney ?
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I was looking at building a pizza oven 3 years ago, never did, this is awesome!!, how hot of fire can you put in there
So, how would one build an earthen oven inside their cabin?
Have a cob party. I love you man
Nice job. All but brick available in nature. Flat stones be fine too. 60-63% is 2/3’s ratio. Call everyone? You have interestingly good friends. I’ll be working like you with; all my friends. Amazing work and useful for coming days. 2025.
That's interesting. How would have fire bricks made back then?
Helped our California neighbors build one of these in the 70s. Made the best Greek bread.
Were such ovens used to make pottery?
Thank you I have watched so many how to build earthen oven videos and yours is the only one that seems doable to me and I absolutely appreciate how you take the time to explain things. Thank you.
That's hardcore, wearing white while working with earth. Good contrast as a result.
Authentic is cool. But I would have chicken wire in the hod. And I would use mortar on outside.
I wonder if the original design if this i what first gave people the idea of the igloo? Same concept 🤔
My first time on this channel and how do you construct the sand dome? Is there anything underneath the dome for shape? Thanks I really want to make one . Also have you made an earth wood burning stove to use indoors? Is that safe?
Regular brick will work, but you better make sure you have very very thick insulation between the bottom of the brick and the wood if you use a wood platform. I've built two of these and regular brick will convect heat to the wood and eventually burn a hole through. I will be getting fire brick for my next one.
