Caucasian Albanians still existed in the middle ages, They had lost most of their provinces to the arabs in the 8th century but the kingdom of hereti was reformed in the northern provinces under the Arranshahik dynasty of Sahl Smbatean and Atrnerses.

the kingdom of Hereti possessed the regions of what is now southern Kakheti(Armenian inhabited cambysene, and the regions inhabited by the Heretian subgroup of albanians from kvareli down to qakh province. and the Udi inhabited provinces of Shaki-vardashen. The heretian peoples mostly converted to Georgian orthodoxy and gradually became georgianized.

later on the region of qabala which was also inhabited by the udi was recovered, the province of Kaladasht which comprises of modern kurdamir and zardab were inhabited by the Gargarean people but it had been colonized by islamic iranian tribes when the arabs annexed it.

and the Provinces of Ismayilli and Agsu were inhabited by the gardmanian and Gelae peoples, Shamakhi was inhabited by the Lupenian people who were also Armenian rite Christians but were not part of the caucasian albanian people proper. and these provinces were the western shirvani Christian majority provinces recovered by David IV here.

in modern Quba Khatchmaz province there were the Silvii or Mazkut people who were also mostly Christianized and were Armenian rite but were also distinct from the core caucasian albanian people, and the city of Shabaran was stated to be still majority Christian in the 10th century. Although the region was colonized by zoroastrian persians under Sassanid rule and was islamized partially by the middle ages. by the later middle ages only a few grouping of villages remained from these communities.

lastly the Balasagan people were mostly pagan and were tribal so they got overwhelmed by iranic settlers and their remnants mixed with the iranian settlers. Although a very small community of christian balasagan people lived in the absheron peninsula and got persianized by language speaking the tat dialect and Identified as Armenians in later centuries.

19:20 😭😭😭😭Can anyone listen to this without tears? His last wish was to be buried at the entrance of the church so that every visitor would step on his grave, as if he were nothing—perhaps even the greatest of sinners. This was the man who built an empire, the strongest state in the world at its time, and saved many groups from disappearing from history. And yet, he started from almost nothing—a raided, small, nominal kingdom with no proper army or towns. This kind of humility is beyond average Christian philosophy. He was truly the sword of the Messiah, if not the Messiah himself. Christlike figure (but with big f-ing sword😄).

He was truly one of the greatest monarchs and generals of all time. He didn't rule over one of the largest empires so, his name may not shine through like many others, but he made the most out of what he was given. He inherited a country in the worst situation both internally and externally. He became the king of a shrinking Christian county in the region where the mighty Christian Byzantine empire had pretty much fallen and Armenia had completely fallen. He saved Georgian and Armenian nations from completely going extinct. Georgia and Armenia are not large countries, but we still exist. Both nations with unique history and culture and still Christian, thanks to that 16 year old boy who ascended to the throne of Georgia in 1089.

Once again another great video, you did our greatest monarch complete justice. Although I'm still not the biggest fan of your singing-like voice and narration, your content and especially the script of them is still phenomenal and you deserve way more praise for that than you currently get.
I agree with you completely on the point that David's Georgia was an empire. Although it never bore this title, it in practice was one. Georgians in general were militaristic, but pretty non-expansionist and didn't enlarge their core territory outside of Georgian-majority lands, outside of which they were mostly just fine creating protectorates and vassal states, expanding their sphere of influence without annexation (Which does kinda suit the definition of an empire I suppose). Armenia was an exception because they needed liberation from the oppressive Seljuks and were pretty chill about unification, bless them. Who knows how much better off this caucasus-spanning empire would have been, if not for them bloody Mongols!

This is a bit off topic but in theme with the mongols, I actually wrote a fun alternate story about what if Genghis Khan had died 20 years early, after unifying the mongol tribes but before establishing his efficient military reforms, leading to a powerful, but relatively weaker Mongols, who bounce off and miss the caucasus, heavily weaken Khwarezmia but never destroy Baghdad, and devastate the Rus but fail at Kiev. It creates a power vacuum in the middle east that both Georgia and Byzantium exploit, the devastated eastern rome survives and lives on a weakened self, meanwhile Georgia, fully united with Armenia (Yes, Silesia included) and Trebizond, forms the empire of Caucasion, which sets it up for entering the world stage as a worthy, but tame and backwater great power. Just a cool thought I constantly wonder about, because frankly, the history of my country deeply depresses me. It took not one, but two genocidal nomadic invaders at their prime to bring down Georgia and trample its struggling body, but these were the two genocidal nomadic invaders that DID arrive…
