I've read the stories of how Aphrodite commanded Eros to make many fall in love, and to chase them without reciprocation; stories such as Apollo and his love for Daphne, who at his disdain and her terror, was transformed into a Laurel Tree; stories which Eros caused much mischief and heartbreak.
I like to think this story serves as a karmic tale to Eros himself; how he felt the pain of his own deeds.
