When I was 13 in 1988, my parents took me and my siblings on a business trip with them to the Soviet Union, We had a translator with us, it was bitter cold, about 30 below zero, statues of Stalin were still uo near the Kremlin in Red Square , which is beautiful by the way. At that age I really had no idea what communism was, but it was so creepy there. Everyone would stop and stare like they had never seen anything that had to do with western culture. I stayed with a host family that I they don't know about freedom, they have very little water to bathe , cook with, wash clothes, very little food, jobs were scarce, and it was just shocking to me .. The family told me most Russians lived this way. It made me sad. Another shocking thing was a shopping trip, they were excited to show me their mall. I have to tell you, there was nothing in the stores, nothing, everything maybe second hand, nothing was name brand, and everything was expensive. I thought to myself how lucky I am, and I will never in my life take anything for granted. The economic hardships were heartbreaking, and still happening today, there, Ukraine, Gaza, even North Korea. So Sad. Im sure it's worse now under Putin. Again, we are so lucky for our freedom, and a better life, It's just something I don't think they will ever have, but hope one day they will experience. 😢

It’s sad. It shows how pain can force someone to change their entire life direction, and though the motivations may overall be positive, all it takes is for one person with ulterior motives to get in power and turn it into something even worse. I wonder what Lenin would think if he could have been around as a fly on the wall to see what Stalin ended up doing.
