Pompey the Great, a brilliant Roman general and politician, rose to prominence through military victories across the Mediterranean. He’s best known for his part in the First Triumvirate with Caesar and Crassus, his subsequent civil war against Julius Caesar, and ultimately, his defeat and assassination, marking a pivotal moment in the Roman Republic’s decline.

Just discovered this channel. Good ol YouTube downloaded your episode on Newton. Very well done. I came right away to see if
Belisarius had an episode, but he does not. So consider this my official request for Belisarius! Thanks!
WHAT ABOUT ME, POMPEY? YEEAAAHHHH.
Pompey was far more autocratic than Caesar, before the civil war. It was just handy for him and the optimates to ally. Had they won, Pompey might have been a much less benevolent ruler.
Wonderful biography that shows, as you yourselves say in a moment, how tragic Pompey's life is. Beautiful images make all the more impressive the impression of this. Thanks.
Cicero was the last defender of the Republic. Pompey was part of the Triumvirate that was the beginning of the end of the Republic.
Pompey the Great—a hero, defender of the republic, but also suffered the tragedy of power
"The Great" was a nickname given to him ironically lol
I love these videos. keep up the good work❤
Kings n Generals did amazing with the Diadochi wars. Maybe that's an idea for future video
"Shame, on the house of Ptolemy, shame"!
Conqueror of the East.
Nice video ever🥰
I watched till 25.54 when I realized that there was no honor with any of the participants of any of these battles . A man:s word and honor meant nothing to them . Only power , prestige , and acquired wealth meant anything to these lying ones . Makes me sick .😢
Great job with this one!
HE WAS A CONSUL OF ROME!!!!
I love the dramatic new mini trailer in the beginning of the videos now! Gives me something to look forward to! And then of course it's the famous "the man known to history as…" 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Every story on this channel is amazing and so informative thank you 🙏🏼
I think Cato the Younger would have something to say about Pompey being the "last defender of the republic". Please do Cato! He was just as capable a politican as either Pompey or Caesar, even if he didnt share their military prowess.
It's a lie Rome wasn't white because they were from north Africa and anything from north Africa is black not white white people didn't exist before 1681 on the planet earth you heard of the shocker Zulu tribe of Africa that's who the Roman's were how do I know because I'm 30 percent north Africa
tales untold stole the audio and word for word -_-
OH
Great Explanation
I wonder what would have happened if Pompey had won? He had a much larger army at Pharsalus, if the ancient sources are to be believed, so it's hardly too unimaginable. Would the republic have survived? I think it was doomed in the long run anyway, given the structural issues that were driving the civil wars.
Please do Kublai Khan
He was a dipshit
