Hitler was a hypochondriac. And Hitler hired this doctor, the same way he hired EVERYONE in his government. Not on merit or experiance, but "Who was the biggest suck up ?"
Even then doctors had had an arsenal of drugs in their bag. A smart doctor knew how to pander to their patients. (They still do).
They expect some magic pill, rather than alter their lifestyles, but much less the truth.. And even then Dr's had some pretty heavy drugs that would at least mask their patients problems.
But the really astonishing thing is, this Doctor was able to use one of the most powerful men in the world as a human guinea pig. And the pair of them would sink farther down that rabbit hole…
By 1945 Hitler was a very ill man. And his doctor's CURES were undoubtedly a major part of the problem.

He doesn't look too much like an average con-man to me. The average con-man is not sufficiently imaginative or personally committed to get involved in such elaborate alternative therapies. A con man does need a high opinion of their imagination, to justify the rewards to themselves, but the one idea that gives them their 'angle' mustn't differ too much from what people are ready to believe. Morel looks more to me like a sincere nut-case – a bit like our beloved Fuhrer really. It was deep calling unto deep. Also, we must not lose sight of the fact that back in the days before Medical Science became a public institution, a personal Doctor would have to provide something that their patient could experience as a service, not to public welfare, not to medical science, not to the cause of Truth, not to the technology of public provision, but to the patient himself. In the days when you paid for what you got, you would expect to get something that you did not mind paying for.
