In Kazakhstan, the inhabitants have adapted to withstand all of nature’s challenges. This film takes us into the centre of a snowstorm where thousands of travellers find themselves caught in an enormous traffic jam. We meet farmers who rely on hostile land. The Aral Sea, now completely dried out, has given place to a desert made up of sand, salt, and dust that’s toxic to the inhabitants.

At work we load trucks for Shymkent in Kazakhstan, every time they drive off fully loaded, I think of the insane distance the drivers have to travel. A 6000 km journey from the Netherlands all the way to Kazakhstan, imagine having traveled more than 5000km in Europe and Russia, only to get stuck in a snow blizzard, for days when you finally reached Kazakhstan. True road warriors!! respect!!
I made this journey from Atyrau to Almatay (through Aral) and onto Semey, in April 2025 by motorcycle.
I was.blessed with fine weather, but the roads wereve severly damaged after being under the winter snow.
I had no idea the area could be so inhospitable.
The people however were amazingly kind to me, a sole lonely traveller.
I’m watching this in 2025 I’d love to know if it’s got better for the fishermen who wasn’t as important as the cotton farmers in the government eyes
If they know icing is a problem, why dont they have tire chains?

these people should bring carpets and throw rugs with them to put under their tires when they get stuck

It’s crazy this is modern day Russia. This is why the US is so advanced. Every part of our country is developed regardless of population. It’s so weird seeing a country look like this today. Tells you how poor they really are.

New invention with high quality batteries or even new invention With petrol or gas could easily be build for truckers make the journey 3 times easier.who ever they work for or govertment could easily get This ,yeni buluslar work with batteries or petrol or gas could be sell separately to drivers or companies .unless government want to improve public sector to do it for free where they could charge the companies extra tax.

I live in Canada so I know about the cold and bad winter storms up north were I live you can get snowed in but the roads are better but when they are covered in ice and snow in the winter it is bad
