Amazing ❤
Did you catch it, the Bayeux Tapestry?
It’s not until you hear what it was like during Anglo-Saxon England do you begin to understand just how much William Duke Of Normandy (William The Bastard/Conqueror) changed England forever, uniting as one complete country instead of 4-5 different kingdoms and that’s not including Cornwall or West Wales as it was called then. (I’m born in Plymouth but have always lived in Cornwall just outside Plymouth in a hamlet just outside a village my grandfather bought from the Earl Of St. Germans, the 2nd largest land owner in Cornwall after either the King or it might have passed to Prince William when Charles became King. Anyway things are different today but all the old Cornish people who were born in Cornwall or Kernow and could speak Cornish always considered Cornwall a different country to England and because I was born in Plymouth I was a foreigner and Plymouth which is the other side of the Tamar River was a different country)
It's known throughout history that the women you loved and respected and gave everything to becomes your worst nightmare. Never trust anyone including those lovely little tities.
I love you.
My grandmother was born around 500 metres from his birthplace, islip oxfordshire

I don't believe Edward and Alfred were 'ignored by their mother for an incredibly long time'. She undoubtedly saved both of their young lives by marrying King Canute, although that's not likely the reason for the marriage. When she sent them abroad, it was doubtless to protect them. When their father and then Edmund died, being a highly intelligent woman, she knew an 11 or 12 year old boy would be absolutely no match for the battled-tested Canute. It was an incredibly shrewd and brilliant move to marry Canute, and she was fortunate to still be beautiful and powerful enough for him to desire marriage with her. I believe Edward had a strained relationship with women in general. He held little regard and virtually no affection for his mother, and he briefly had his wife banished to a convent for her family's actions. That, coupled with the fact that Edward's marriage produced no children, living or dead, it starts to paint a picture of a king who possibly saw himself as 'too holy' for women. That's purely conjecture based on the small amounts of evidence we have of Edward's life. And I believe Emma mourned Alfred's death, it's not as if the contemporary chroniclers, some of which actively disliked Emma, would have written of her 'feminine gentleness'. If she had thrown herself hysterically weeping to the floor in the privacy of her rooms after his death, who would have written such a statement down? I feel sorry for poor Alfred.
uncharacteristically poorly written text for this channel
No matter his “luck”… his mother’s initial betrayal to promote her own position should have warned him to be wary during his reign. All the nobles seem very “shifty” in their “loyalties”.
No music in background is best … ty.
Why so many commercials? Ruined this for me.
Next time you should do Aethel Skinner. First queen of England
what dreadful names these people had
Why don’t we sue the Danes and Norwegians?
I am missing the Edgar Eatheling story. Ealdermen choose him to become king.
I always thought the Anglo-Saxon era ended in 1066, but since the Godwins basically held earldom over most of England, for decades, that coupled with the Confessor being half Norman, installing Normans throughout the Churches and several as marcher lords, the Anglo-Saxon era was already a bygone period.
Edgar had a half brother 😂 ..
Named ..half a knut
Go figure 😂😂😂😂
The idea that historians toy with the idea that Edward "promised" William the crown always makes me laugh. Hmm… no evidence at all, but the king super duper promised William a kingdom.
I knew about this Edward in relation to the succession debacle and the Conquest, but I had no idea his reign was so turbulent AND so well documented. Your videos are like a second education. Many thanks for the excellent presentation and clear narration! I would, however, like to see more maps, please.
1005
This documentary was written in a very stolid and uninteresting fashion. Things not to do: 1) List a bunch of names and dates like I'm reading the book of Genesis. 2) Relay stories in succession that have little relevance to the one before. 3) Having no interest in focusing on an interesting story and why that makes the people interesting. This is a terribly boring documentary as a result.
Was he gay?
Forget about “King Edward the Confessor”, Try “King Edward the Hairdresser”! 😮
This was more epic than Game of Thrones except there were no dragons 😂
These history videos are like a time machine, transporting me to distant lands and eras.
Y’all should do videos on a few French kings and queens
Promising the English throne to someone doesn't make any sense for the period, considering that in order to get the throne, one had to be elected by the witan.
Please do Athelstan, the first king of England
Imagine being known for all eternity as The Unready.😮
45min
Born unready😅
Always wanted to learn more about this king
We was kangs! And serfs, and slaves etc. oh well
