Dive into the turbulent story of Georges Danton, the most complex and charismatic leader of the French Revolution! Known as “The Thunderer” for his powerful oratory, Danton was the key force behind the overthrow of the monarchy and the establishment of the First French Republic. He became the first President of the Committee of Public Safety, using his famous call for “daring” to mobilize the nation against foreign threats during the French Revolutionary Wars.
But Danton’s path to power was cut short by his own growing sense of moderation. Watch as the Jacobin giant falls out with his former ally, Maximilien Robespierre, challenging the escalating violence of the Reign of Terror. This video explores Danton’s controversial legacy, his accusations of corruption, his dramatic arrest, and his final moment at the guillotine in 1794, marking a tragic turning point in the Revolution.

Danton wasn’t a good guy
Brilliant narration and work as always. Thanks for the video.
Can you make a video of Abraham Lincoln?
Best video since the one on Robespierre ❤
Such an interesting documentary. Great use of footage really bringing this story of Georges Danton to life.
An obvious moderate force in the Revolution, could have been a good statesman

I appreciate how it shows Danton not just as a revolutionary, but as a man torn between ideals and survival. His journey reminds us that courage in politics often means knowing when to stop the storm you helped create.
The French Revolution was a mess and nobody escaped the madness. Mob rule never benefits civilized society. All those lives lost horribly for nothing. What a tragedy.

Excellent history
Danton's thunderous oratory didn't just spark the Revolution—it lit the fuse on a monarchy's downfall! This gripping bio reveals the man behind the fire. Who's your fave revolutionary wild card?
He was a great leader of the revolution
When I think of his role in the French Revolution and the creation of the bloodbath that it was, and his eventual fate, I think of a cooking show here in the United States, paraphrased, "Whose head is on the chopping block? Danton, you've been chopped!"
The hero of the Revolution to my mind! Robespierre turned into a terrible figure, but Danton was a great figure. Absolutely madness what was allowed to occur in 1794, especially since the military emergency had passed. They were winning the war when Robespierre's worst instincts were allowed to take hold in Paris. Thanks for the details on his early life. Didn't know any of this. As always, an informative documentary.
An ally of Maximilien Robespierre until he wasn't
