Taron (Armenian: Տարոն, Latin: Taraunitis) was a canton of the Turuberan province of Greater Armenia, now in the Muş Province, Turkey. It was divided into four districts: Mamikonian, Palauni, (Belabitene), Artokh (Ardjish or Artzike, west of Lake Van).
Muş – capital of Armenian Taron province –
Muş (center of Armenian Taron province) is considered one of the early centers of the Armenian civilization and housed ancient Armenian churches until the 1960s. The town was the seat of a diocese of both the Armenian Apostolic as well as the Armenian Catholic Churches. In May 1915, virtually the entirety of Mus’ Armenian population, some 15,000 people, was massacred as part of the Armenian genocide.
