One of the most beautiful things about our culture is the amount of respect we have for the generations that came before us 🇦🇲
But respect shouldn’t necessarily mean repetition.
Our parents & grandparents passed down resilience, work ethic, family values, traditions & a culture worth being proud of.
They also lived in a completely different world than we do today.
Different food environment. Different occupations. Different levels of daily movement. Different stressors. Different access to information.
So maybe the best way we can honor what they gave us isn’t by blindly doing everything exactly the same…
It’s taking the foundation they built & improving on it.
Keep the values.
Keep the traditions.
Keep the respect.
But the habits that no longer serve our health?
We can leave those behind.
Each generation should be trying to leave the next one a little better than they found it 🤷🏻♂️
And sometimes breaking a generational cycle is one of the greatest forms of respect you can show.
ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO OUR HEALTH.
Because as a culture, we’ve normalized way too many things that shouldn’t be normal.
Waiting until something is wrong to finally see a doctor.
Treating high blood pressure, growing waistlines, poor sleep, low energy & getting weaker with age like they’re just an inevitable part of getting older.
Ignoring warning signs because “I feel fine.”
And wearing stress, overworking & neglecting ourselves like some sort of badge of honor.
We don’t have to lose what makes us Armenian in order to improve the things that are hurting us.
We can preserve the culture WITHOUT preserving every habit that came with it 🇦🇲
