The US certainly needs an FDR now. Given that a species of authoritarianism akin to fascism has reared its ugly head in the US itself. And the looming storm clouds not of war (so much) but of the catastrophic destabilisation of the global climate and ecological collapse.

FDR has more in common with Hitler than Donald Trump ever will. FDR was a horrible President. He made it illegal to own gold and stole everyones gold in the middle of the Great Depression. He built fort knox to hold everything he stole from the American people. FDR violated the Constitutional rights of Japanese Americans by kidnapping them and putting them into concentration camps that were not so different than Nazi concentration camps. FDR was pen pals with Mussolini and called him that "honorable Italian gentleman." The new deal was actually based on Italian fascism and the Supreme Court struck down the worst parts of it because it was "too fascist" according to them. FDR tried to pack the Supreme Court because he was furious with their ruling. The New Dealers even admitted early on that the New Deal was inspired by Italian fascism. FDR and Musolini reviewed eachothers books and they both offered praise for one another. The New Deal didn't get the United States out of the depression, it actually extended the length of the depression by a decade. The rest of the world was out of the depression 10 years before we were. FDR is the one who put the word great in great depression. His policies made that depression great when it didn't need to be. FDR also excluded African Americans from most New Deal programs and he put a member of the KKK on the Supreme Court to protect his executive orders that created the Japanese concentration camps. FDR was our worst President and I'll never be convinced otherwise. Nazi newspapers in Germany even called FDR "the furer" after they took one look at his New Deal programs. Nazis loved the New Deal. Also, FDR's bigotry towards Jews derailed Holocaust rescue plans.
