MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala bombed out of the Singapore Tennis Open qualifiers after falling to Simona Waltert of Switzerland, 3-6, 2-6, on Sunday.
The 19-year-old Eala couldn’t reach the main draw of her Singapore tilt, losing to the Swiss ace in just an hour and 16 minutes.

Waltert has beaten Eala thrice in their last four meetings to inch a win closer to the main draw of the tournament.

Eala on Saturday edged Japanese Sara Saito in three sets, 6-1, 6-7 (1), 7-5, to start her campaign only to miss the main draw.
The Filipino netter came from India, losing in the round of 16 of W100 Bengaluru against Dalila Jakupovic, 4-6, 4-6, on Thursday.

Eala also missed the chance to enter the main draw of the Australian Open 2025 after losing in the first round of qualifiers.

The Rafael Nadal Academy product recently achieved her career-high in the Women’s Tennis Association world ranking, rising to 136.
