He was a good fighter. My favorite sword is a mini-version of his turkish blade. My birthmother's prussian Saxe family call themselves 'Radu's Bastard'. The family legend is they're descended from Radu and Mehmet's sister's child. They lived in secret in a german town in Wallachia until Radu married. Then they went to Prussia using the name Saxe.
My father Carol was unaware of my existence and I've never met my draculesti family, but my birthmother (I was adopted at birth) says I look quite like him. She hates him, so not a good thing. I was born and grew up in Ireland and met my birthmother 10yrs ago.

I'm American, but I still have to admire Vlad Dracula. He knew what needed to be done, and he did it. I admit, he wasn't nice about it, but in what he was dealing with, I don't think you can be.

Throughout my academic career, my opinion of Vlad III changed. I understand why he's considered a hero. It was a brutal time; his emotional, psychological traumas, drove him too. An intelligent, superb tactitian, savvy politician. Was he any more "savage" than other rulers of the time? Why him? Fascinating mystery.

The best biography of Vlad I've ever seen. He grew up in a violent world and was sent with his brother as insurance to live with the Ottomans.He was just a little kid. Who knows what he had to endure at their hands. He grew up into a man who "walked it like he talked it." I love that!
