Budgeting is lovely. I enjoy budgeting. I have two spread sheets; one of them includes a pie chart. What is not measured is not managed.
Get a coupon organizer (I think they still make them) and title each tab with "Car," "Grocery," "Utilities, ' etc. Save a paper receipt or just write it down and put the slip in the right category. This will help you see what you're spending on when you total at the end of the month.
