PH, US air forces to hold bilateral air intercept training in WPS

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the United States Pacific Air Force (PACAF) will hold a bilateral air intercept training over the West Philippine Sea on Tuesday.

In a press conference, PAF spokesperson Col. Maria Consuelo Padilla said the exercise would be a “crucial step in enhancing interoperability, improving air domain awareness and agile combat employment” of both air forces’ bilateral air objectives.

“Today February 4, the Philippine Air Force and the US PACAF will conduct a bilateral bomber air patrol, air intercept training, and photo exercise over the West Philippine Sea,” Padilla said.

The activity will involve two Philippine Air Force FA-50 aircraft and two US B-1 aircraft, she added.

“This aircraft will rendezvous off the West Coast of the Philippines and conduct bilateral air patrols, air intercept training, and photo exercises within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone,” Padilla said.

She noted that the joint exercise was conducted under the framework of the Mutual Defense Board–Security Engagement Board (MDB-SEB) activities between the two countries.
